He Gave His Password To Her And Lost His Future Chapter 11

“I drove here. Let me take you home.”

Julian finally spoke up, jogging to keep pace beside me.

“You’re drunk, Vivienne. It’s late, and it’s not safe for you to Uber home alone. Wait here. I’ll grab the car.”

Before I could respond, he took off toward the parking lot.

I let out a cold laugh and kept walking.

A few minutes later, his car rolled up beside me.

“Get in.”

He climbed out, opened the passenger door, and gently guided me inside before I could argue.

I didn’t resist as he buckled my seatbelt for me.

Then he tucked a small cushion against my side and folded a blanket behind my head.

“If you get sleepy, lean back. The window’s hard.”

I half-closed my eyes and drifted off.

The engine had started, but the car never moved.

When I woke up sometime later, we were still parked outside the bar.

Julian was staring at me silently, his eyes rimmed red.

I frowned. “Are we going or not?”

He snapped out of it immediately.

“Ah… yeah. Sorry. You were sleeping, and I didn’t want to wake you.”

He finally pulled onto the road.

Julian and I had grown up in the same neighborhood, only a few streets apart, so the drive wasn’t long.

About ten minutes later, we stopped at a red light near the alley where Hazel had cornered me before.

I reached out and tapped Julian lightly on the arm.

“See that alley?” I said quietly. “That’s where Hazel blocked me off with a dozen people. She sprayed pepper spray in my face, dug her nails into me, and had people pin me to the ground while she forced me to bark like a dog.”

My voice dropped lower.

“Julian… I was terrified.”

He gripped the steering wheel so tightly his knuckles turned white.

I looked at him.

“Why did you defend her without even asking what really happened?”

I shook my head slowly.

“I still don’t understand it. I really don’t.”

“Vivienne…” His voice cracked. “I’m sorry. It was all my fault. I lost my mind. I’m so sorry.”

The apology felt painfully weak.

I closed my eyes and said nothing else.

When we pulled into the driveway, Julian didn’t unlock the doors right away.

Instead, he grabbed a cake box from the back seat.

“It’s from that French bakery next to Whole Foods,” he said softly. “Your favorite one. I thought you might want some.”

“I don’t.” My voice was flat. “Unlock the door.”

I got out and headed toward the house without another glance.

But Julian hurried after me.

“Vivienne, please. Just take it. I waited five hours in line for this. It’s your favorite strawberry cake…”

“I said I don’t want it!”

I smacked the box out of his hands.

“Leave me alone!”

The cake hit the ground with a sickening splatter.

Strawberries rolled across the pavement, covered in dirt and snow. The sweet scent of cream suddenly felt suffocating.

Julian stood there helplessly, staring at the mess.

I looked at him coldly.

“Julian, I’m never forgiving you.”

My voice trembled with exhaustion.

“So stop showing up. Stop looking for me. We’re done.”
