“You knew the whole time, didn’t you?” His voice shook.

“Yes,” I said.

Just one word, but it drained all the color from Julian’s face.

“Then why didn’t you tell me? Why didn’t you stop her?” He stopped right in front of me. For the first time, the composed, untouchable Julian looked completely lost. “Vivienne, we’ve known each other for eighteen years…”

“And what about it?” I cut him off. “I warned you. That morning, I called you over and over asking if you’d given Hazel your portal password. I tried to ask if you understood what could happen. You didn’t listen. You treated me like the villain and told me to stay out of your business.”

I stepped closer, my voice turning colder.

“I watched you throw your future away for her. Skipping class to go drinking, letting your GPA crash semester after semester. I was the one dragging you through college essays, fixing your résumé, staying up until two in the morning trying to pull you out of the mess you’d made.”

“You didn’t appreciate any of it. You acted like I was controlling you, like I was trying to ruin your freedom. You even convinced yourself I was trying to break you and Hazel up.”

I looked him dead in the eye.

“I did everything I could. If you didn’t care about your own future, why should I have kept sacrificing myself to care for it?”

Julian backed up until the wall cornered him.

His face had gone completely pale.

His lips parted slightly, but nothing came out.

Not a single word.

Seeing all of Julian’s attention fixed on me, Hazel finally snapped.

She rushed over and shoved herself between us, glaring at me with burning hatred.

“You deserve to be the bad guy!” she shouted. “You’ve been obsessed with Julian forever! If you hadn’t kept pushing me and targeting me every chance you got, I never would’ve done any of this! I was just trying to protect my relationship! What’s wrong with that?”

Serena couldn’t take it anymore.

She walked over, pulled the hysterical Hazel back, and pointed at the acceptance letter in her hand.

“Protecting your relationship doesn’t mean destroying someone else’s life. Tampering with another person’s college application portal is illegal in a lot of states. Even if you don’t understand the law, you should at least have a conscience.”

The room exploded into whispers.

“A 1580 SAT score ending up at community college? That’s literally nightmare fuel.”

“This girl is insane. She practically assaulted his future.”

“Julian used to think she was ‘real’ and passionate. Bet reality finally hit him.”

The livestream chat was even worse.

The comments tore Hazel apart nonstop.

Watching her reputation crash in real time completely shattered her composure.

“I didn’t do anything wrong!” she screamed, grabbing Julian’s arm. “Julian, tell them you don’t care! You said love could overcome anything! You can’t take it back now!”

But Julian slowly pried her fingers off him one by one.

Then he took a deep breath.

“We’re done, Hazel,” he said quietly. “Maybe I’ll have to do a post-grad year and reapply next cycle. Maybe I’ll lose everything I worked for. But I’m not going to that school with you.”

His eyes were red.

“I can’t be with someone who destroyed my future with her own hands.”
