He Gave His Password To Her And Lost His Future Chapter 02

My mom noticed how distracted I was before I even left the house. She slung my bag over my shoulder for me and said gently, “Vivienne, don’t forget there’s an after-party tonight for the senior prom.”

I snapped back to reality.

When I glanced down at my phone again, the Reddit thread had already been locked to private.

The only new update from OP read:

[Nobody better ruin my surprise for him :)]

“Is Julian picking you up?” Mom asked.

I shook my head.

“That’s strange,” she murmured. “You two used to be inseparable. Ever since college applications started, it’s like you barely talk anymore. Is this about that girl again?”

I stayed quiet.

Mom sighed.

Ever since Julian met Hazel during senior year, he’d changed.

He started skipping class, sneaking into underground parties, mocking me for being a “grade-obsessed nerd” who didn’t know how to enjoy real teenage life.

He stopped studying with me at the library and started ditching evening review sessions to take Hazel to midnight movie premieres instead.

The AP Calculus notes I’d stayed up all night organizing for him ended up getting burned at some camping trip because Hazel thought it’d be “funny” to use them to roast marshmallows.

Within half a year, his mock exam scores crashed hard.

In the end, I was the one who forced myself back into his life. I made him cut off those deadbeat friends, dragged him back into SAT prep, edited every one of his college essays, and practically hauled him back from the edge of getting rejected everywhere.

The day SAT scores came out, he tossed his score report onto my desk.

“1580. Perfect math score. More than enough for MIT.” His voice was flat. “Happy now?”

I stared at him, eyes burning.

“Julian… do you seriously think I pushed you this hard because I wanted to force you into the same college as me?”

He shrugged casually, but the look on his face clearly said:

Then why else?

Hazel showed up wearing a cropped tank top and ripped jeans. The second she saw me, her face twisted with disgust.

“Oh look, it’s your school’s resident academic try-hard,” she sneered. “People like you are so obsessed with elite colleges it’s actually psychotic. Not enough to ruin your own life studying, you’ve gotta drag everybody else down with you too?”

Julian slid an arm around her shoulders naturally and looked at me with detached indifference.

“I already helped you achieve your little Ivy League dream. The least you can do is let me enjoy my summer in peace.” He frowned slightly. “Seriously, stop clinging to me like a tracking device. I’m allowed to have my own life.”

Then he walked off with Hazel without another glance back.

After that, he stopped replying to my emails and ignored every call.

The graduation road trip I’d planned for us a month in advance got canceled without a word.

It was like he was punishing me for ever trying to control him.

I’d exhausted myself trying to protect his future, only to end up cast as the jealous girl trying to break up his relationship.

“Vivienne,” Mom said softly, “sometimes people need to make their own mistakes. The more you try to interfere, the more they resent you for it.”

I nodded quietly.

Then I grabbed my purse, walked out the front door alone, and called an Uber to the party.
