The Wedding Red Sheet Became My Death Parachute Chapter 01

The Wedding Red Sheet Became My Death Parachute Chapter 01

I pulled the ripcord at fifteen thousand feet, but what fluttered out wasn’t a canopy—it was a red silk sheet embroidered with “Bless this Union.”

My husband had handpicked that sheet for our wedding three years ago. Now, it was my death warrant.

The terror of weightlessness engulfed me instantly. I flailed my arms in mid-air, desperately trying to reach for my husband nearby.

But Grant only held his female assistant tighter, steering his parachute away to avoid my pleading hands without a moment’s hesitation.

Amber laughed so hard she was nearly in tears.

“Evelyn, that’s a very… unique pattern for a parachute.”

Through my headset, I heard the cheerful clapping of my five-year-old daughter.

“Daddy, look! Mommy really turned into a superhero! She’s flying!”

“Auntie Amber was right! Mommy can fly with just a bedsheet!”

Then came my husband’s cold, disgusted sneer:

“Pathetic.”

“She’s so desperate to compete with Amber that she’d actually try a stunt as stupid as jumping with a bedsheet.”

Amidst their laughter, I plummeted toward the abyss.

Amber Vance giggled, covering her mouth.

“If you’re afraid of heights, Evelyn, just forget it. Skydiving is a young person’s game. If you force yourself to go, Grant will just end up having to babysit you.”

Grant Sterling chimed in with a cold face.

“She’s just jealous of you. She’s insisting on tagging along just to make a scene. She’s completely out of her league.”

My five-year-old daughter, Daisy Sterling, joined in the taunting.

“Mommy is such a coward! She’s scared to jump! Auntie Amber is the bravest! Auntie Amber is my superhero mommy!”

I looked at these three people—familiar, yet strangers.

My chest still throbbed with the phantom pain of being shattered from a fifteen-thousand-foot drop.

I had been reborn.

I was back to the day we agreed to go skydiving.

In my past life, this was the day I said yes.

The result was pulling the ripcord at fifteen thousand feet and seeing that “Bless this Union” red silk sheet flutter out.

It was the sheet my husband picked for our wedding, turned into my shroud.

The terror of the fall had swallowed me whole.

I had waved my hands in the air, trying to grab Grant Sterling.

But he only pulled Amber Vance closer.

He glided away, dodging my reach for life.

Amber laughed until she cried.

“Evelyn, that’s a very unique pattern for a parachute.”

My daughter’s clapping echoed in my ears.

“Daddy, look! Mommy really turned into a superhero! Auntie Amber didn’t lie—Mommy can fly with a bedsheet!”

Then, Grant’s disgusted sneer.

“Pathetic.”

“Doing something this stupid just to get my attention away from Amber.”

I hit the ground hard while they laughed.

The sound of my own body hitting the earth still makes me shudder when I think about it.

But now, I opened my eyes.

I was still alive.

I was sitting on the soft leather sofa in our home.

In front of me was Grant’s impatient face.

Amber was wearing a designer dress Grant had bought her, her eyes full of provocation.

My own daughter, Daisy, was clinging to Amber’s leg, glaring at me.

“Mommy’s a coward! She doesn’t deserve to be my mommy!”

Grant picked up the girl, cooing at her tenderly.

“Be good, Daisy. Let’s ignore that stay-at-home drag. Daddy will take you and Auntie Amber to fly in the sky, okay?”

Amber leaned against Grant’s shoulder, acting coy.

“Grant, don’t be so hard on her. She spends all day doing housework and taking care of the kid—it’s normal she hasn’t seen the world.”

Grant snorted.

“What does she know? She’s paranoid all day long, acting like a psycho.”

Looking at this pair of traitors, I clenched my fists hard.

My nails dug into my palms; the pain kept me sharp.

In my past life, I had exhausted myself for this family.

When Grant first started his company and had no money, I sold the house my parents left me to back him.

Once the company was on track, he used “taking care of Daisy” as an excuse to make me quit my job and stay home.

I believed his lies, thinking I’d found true love.

In return, he shamelessly brought his assistant into our home.

They even flirted right in front of me.

If I protested even slightly, Grant would scream that I was being “unreasonable.”

Even the daughter I carried for nine months was bought off by Amber with toys and snacks.

She followed Amber around every day, calling her “Mommy.”

In my past life, I tried so hard to win Grant back that I tried to join their world.

I even agreed to this absurd skydiving trip.

Only to be brutally murdered by them.

In this life, I won’t make the same mistake.

I will make them pay in bl0od.

I took a deep breath, suppressing the hatred in my eyes.

I put on a gentle smile.

“Who says I’m not going?”

I stood up and straightened my clothes.

“Since it’s a family outing, of course I’m coming.”

The smile on Amber’s face froze for a second.

She clearly hadn’t expected me to agree so easily.

She quickly tugged at Grant’s sleeve.

“Grant, Evelyn won’t even ride a rollercoaster. If she actually jumps, what if she has a heart attack?”

Grant frowned at me.

“Evelyn, stop acting tough. Amber is a regular at the SkyHigh Adrenaline Center. What do you know about this?”

I looked at him coldly.

“What, I can’t come to watch my own husband jump? Or are you two hiding a secret you’re afraid I’ll find?”

Grant’s expression snapped, like a cat whose tail had been stepped on.

“Don’t talk nonsense! Fine, come! Don’t blame me when you’re crying for help up there!”

Daisy jumped up and down, shouting.

“Mommy’s just going to embarrass herself! I want to see Auntie Amber fly!”

I ignored my daughter’s insults.

I just stared at Amber quietly.

“Amber, since you’re the regular, I’ll leave my gear in your hands.”

A flash of malice darted through Amber’s eyes.

She smiled and nodded.

“Don’t worry, Evelyn. I’ll make sure you get the best equipment.”

She put a heavy emphasis on the word “best.”

I sneered internally.

The “best” equipment—that red bedsheet, right?

No matter. In this life, I’m going to make sure it’s strapped to you.
