He slammed his phone to the floor so hard his voice went hoarse.

When he finally dragged himself back to the villa, Nyx was already there. She’d made herself at home like she owned the place.

She timed it perfectly, rushing up to him with red eyes and trembling lips.

Zander, why are you torturing yourself over her?” Her voice was all soft and gentle. “It’s all my fault. I shouldn’t have wanted so much. I already had you, but I got greedy. I wanted to be with you every single second…”

Tears dripped onto his hand.

“It’s all my fault, right? I shouldn’t have pushed you. Shouldn’t have taken that project. I really didn’t mean to…”

Honestly, when Zander first agreed to let Nyx in, it wasn’t to kick me out.

She’d been whispering in his ear day after day, wearing him down. He got heated and said yes.

But seeing her fake crying now just annoyed him.

Nyx hadn’t figured it out yet-her crying act didn’t work on him anymore.

“But Zander,” she whispered, “she’s not good enough for you anymore. You deserve better. But I am. We can finally be together for real.”

That was the last straw.

Just as Nyx leaned in to kiss him, Zander grabbed the folder from the table and smacked her across the face with it.

Nyx hat the floor, completely stunned.

“Nyz, tell me!” His eyes were bloodshot as he yelled. “Was this you?! Did you drive her away?!”

Nyz was shaking all over, staring at him with wide eyes. “You… you hit me?!”

This time her tears were real. The folder had stung like hell.

Zander stood there, chest heaving. “Nyx, you’re just a side piece. You think you can compare to her?”

“Got a degree and think you’re hot shit? You think I don’t know how you got it? What makes you think you can compete with her?”

Nyx scrambled backward, heart pounding, while Zander loomed over her.

“Talk! Where’s my Luna?!

Something finally clicked in Nyx’s brain.

“You… you never loved me?”

“I can have lots of people around me,” Zander said coldly, “but my Luna will always only be Aria. Get out. This house belongs to me and her. You don’t belong here.”

Nyx’s tears streamned down as she covered her face and ran out.

Zander stood alone in the empty house.

He finally got it–he’d really lost me.

That thought hit him in the chest. He couldn’t breathe.

So this was how I felt back then.
