The CEO Hid His Mistress Inside A Million Dollar Painting Chapter 07

Eyes sharp as knives turned toward the debridement room where Hyatt and Vicky lay.

Hyatt groaned in pain, his cries catching in his throat when he heard the whispers outside.

Half an hour later, Hyatt was bandaged like a mummy and moved to a VIP hospital room.

Vicky’s injuries were lighter, so she was sent to a regular ward for observation.

I carried a thermos of warm water and pushed open Hyatt’s door.

The moment the door shut, Hyatt’s gaze locked onto me.

“Perla.” His voice was low, sharp with anger. “Tell me the truth. Did you burn the painting?”

I set the thermos on the nightstand and looked up at him. “Yes.”

His pupils contracted sharply.

I looked completely innocent as I continued. “I was in the guest room getting an IV, half-asleep. I kept hearing noises from the painting. It sounded like someone crying out in there. It scared me.”

“I was going to call you, but you were in the master bedroom, and I didn’t want to disturb you.” I tucked the corner of his blanket in for him, my voice soft and gentle. “You’re the one who told me before, remember? Some old paintings have unknown origins and can attract bad things.”

“So I thought, why not just burn it? Get rid of any bad luck.” I blinked at him. “Hyatt, it was just a painting. Did I do something wrong?”

Hyatt’s face turned pale.

What could he say?

That he and Vicky had been fooling around inside the painting, caught when I burned it down?

He opened his mouth, then managed only one sentence, “No… it’s fine.”

I nodded, as if I truly believed him.

Then I pressed on. “So… how did you two end up burned like that? You said you were going to make me

something to eat. Why was Vicky in your room? And why were you both naked?”

Hyatt avoided my eyes, lying quickly. “I was smoking, and accidentally set a pillow on fire. The flames spread

fast, burned my clothes.”

“Vicky came to drop off documents. She helped put out the fire, but her clothes caught on fire, too. We

stripped fast so the fabric wouldn’t stick to our skin.”

A terrible excuse.

But I didn’t call him out. Instead, my eyes instantly turned red.

“I see. I was so scared. I thought…” I bit my lip, trailing off. “It’s okay now, as long as you’re safe.”

I touched his unburned wrist gently. “Rest well. I’ve arranged care for Vicky, too. I picked the nurse myself;

she won’t scar.”

“As for the company, you can’t go in right now anyway. I’ll keep an eye on things for

you.”

The moment Hyatt heard the word “company,” his guard shot up. “You’ll keep an eye on things?”

I hurried to reassure him. “Don’t worry, I won’t touch your core projects. I’m just going to sign off on things as your wife and a shareholder, keep everyone steady, and make sure nobody panics down there.”

“When you’re better, I’ll hand everything back.” I wiped my eyes. “Hyatt, healing is what matters most now.”

Hyatt stared at me for a moment, then relaxed. “Perla, you’ve always been the most sensible one. You’re the

only one I can count on.”

I nodded softly. “Of course. I’m your wife.”

He believed me completely.

And I listened, perfectly calm.

Hyatt, I will definitely take very good care of the company for you.

The next few days, I played the devoted wife perfectly.

I brought food, peeled fruit, sat by his bed, and fed him bite by bite.

Hyatt happily ate the takeout I ordered from high-end restaurants.

And he actually believed it was nutritious food I had been cooking at home for hours.

He even held my hand and said, “Thank you for everything, Perla.”

I smiled. “It’s nothing. Just get better soon.”

But the moment I stepped out of his hospital room, I got to work on something else entirely.
