I pressed the lighter against the corner of the canvas.

The moment the orange flame touched the edge, the entire landscape painting burst into fire with a roar.

The flames spread fast, and the stench of burning fabric and wood filled the guest room instantly.

At the same time, two sharp screams came from the master bedroom.

“Ah!”

“Help! Help!”

Then came heavy thuds, crashing furniture, and shattering glass, everything falling apart.

The comments exploded.

[Holy shit! Perla actually burned the painting?]

[No! Hyatt and Vicky were going at it hard! Fire suddenly erupted, burning the whole space!]

[It’s over! He didn’t get a protection shield for the thrill. They burned and fell straight out of the painting!]

I held the lighter.

I pulled out two tissues and pressed them over the needle mark on my hand.

I opened the door and walked slowly toward the master bedroom.

As soon as I stepped in, the smell of burned flesh hit me.

Hyatt and Vicky were rolling naked on the carpet.

Both of them were covered in burns. Their hair was singed and curled black. Their skin was blistered in large

patches-especially on their backs and legs, where the burns were deepest and most severe.

Flesh was split open, curling at the edges. The sight was horrifying.

Vicky’s face was pale with pain, eyes unfocused, twitching on the floor.

Hyatt was no better. He clutched his groin, face twisted in agony, veins popping out.

I stood at the door, covered my mouth, and screamed, “Hyatt! What happened? How did you get burned like

this?”

“Why is Vicky in your room? Why… why are you both naked?”

Hyatt looked up sharply. His eyes were murderous.

But when he opened his mouth, he inhaled smoke, coughing violently.

“Call an ambulance… hurry!” He pushed himself up, teeth gritted, speaking one word at a time. “It’s not what you think… just call 911! Now!”

I pulled out my phone, dialing frantically.

“Hello? 911? Someone in my house has been badly burned.”

“It’s my husband and his assistant. They’re in the bedroom. I don’t know how it happened, but neither of them

is wearing any clothes. They’re seriously injured. Please come quickly.”

I enunciated the words “not wearing any clothes” with particular clarity.

Hyatt’s vision blurred with rage, hands shaking.

But he couldn’t stand, couldn’t stop me.

When the ambulance arrived, he covered his face, hiding like a child, wanting to bury his head in the carpet.

The emergency room at the Lume Hospital was unusually lively that night.

When Hyatt and Vicky were wheeled off the ambulance, they were covered only by thin sterile sheets.

But what the sheets didn’t hide, combined with the telltale locations of their suspicious burns, immediately

drew countless strange looks from everyone around.

The ER doctor treated their wounds, frowning at me. “What happened? Where was the fire? How did they get

burned like this?”

I stood in the hallway, eyes red, voice trembling. “I don’t know. I had an allergic reaction, getting an IV in the

guest room.”

“I heard someone screaming from the master bedroom. I ran over to check, and that’s when I saw them…

both of them rolling on the floor completely naked, covered in flames.”

I deliberately raised my voice just a little.

Nurses and families nearby heard every word.

“I have no idea what they were doing in that room to end up burned like this.”

Whispers broke out in the hallway.

“Cheating, obviously.”

“His wife was getting an IV in the next room, and they were hooking up in the master bedroom? How

shameless can you be?”

“I know that guy. The CEO of the Thorne Group.”

“All proper and put together in public, but look at the kind of games he plays behind closed doors.”
