Landon stood frozen in the doorway. 

His ears rang violently. 

“Miscarriage…?” His voice cracked. “What miscarriage 

procedure?” 

The nurse visibly flinched at the terrifying look on his face. 

“T–the surgery from the other morning…” she stammered. 

“Nora insisted on terminating the pregnancy…” 

Pregnancy? 

Their child? 

Landon’s breathing stopped completely. 

Darkness swam across his vision. 

Suddenly, every detail from the past few days came crashing 

back into his mind. 

Her pale face. 

Her trembling fingers while donating blood. 

All the signs that something had been terribly wrong. 

And he had missed every single one. 

Worse than that… 

He had forced a woman who had just lost her baby to 

donate four hundred milliliters of blood to save Layla. 

Landon staggered back a step, whispering hoarsely, “She had just lost our child… and I still forced her to give blood…” 

The nurse’s eyes widened in horror. 

“Four hundred milliliters?!” she cried. “Right after a 

miscarriage?! Are you insane? Her body never could’ve 

survived that!” 

His eyes reddened instantly. 

“I didn’t know…” His voice broke apart. “I swear I didn’t know. 

God… this is my fault. All of it.” 

He slammed his fist into the wall hard enough to split the 

skin across his knuckles. 

Blood dripped down his hand. 

But he barely felt it. 

All he could see was Nora lying weakly in that hospital bed, 

smiling at him through unbearable pain. 

All he could hear was her soft voice saying: 

“Landon, this life, you have to be happy.” 

Only now did he finally understand. 

She had already decided to leave him. 

She had ended their child’s life, buried herself beneath scars 

and heartbreak, and disappeared completely from his world. 

“Where is she?!” he roared, grabbing the nurse by the 

shoulders. 

Terrified by the savage red glow in his eyes, the nurse shook 

uncontrollably. 

“W–we don’t know…” 

Landon spun around and bolted down the hallway. 

But before he reached the exit, he nearly collided with his parents rushing toward him. 

“Dad… Mom?” 

He looked up and froze at the fury on their faces. 

Thomas struck him across the face without hesitation. 

The crack echoed through the corridor. 

“You worthless idiot!” 

Victoria’s eyes were red from crying as she handed him an 

envelope with trembling fingers. 

“Nora had this delivered.” 

Landon tore it open shakily. 

Inside was a green gemstone engagement ring. 

Their engagement ring. 

A small handwritten note rested beneath it. 

[Landon, 

You saved my life once, and now I’ve repaid that debt. 

From this day forward, we owe each other nothing. 

I hope you and Layla grow old together. 

Nora] 

“Where did she go?” Landon’s voice trembled violently. 

“Oh, now you care enough to ask?” Thomas sneered coldly. “The transfer order to the Eastern Territory was approved 

this morning.” 

Before the sentence even finished, Landon was already 

running. 

His desperate roar echoed from the end of the hallway. 

“Get the car ready!” 

Thomas stared after his son’s disappearing figure and let out 

a long, heavy sigh. 

“If only you’d realized it sooner…”
