Justice for Wronged Grandma Chapter 06

Justice for Wronged Grandma Chapter 06

Silas Crane’s expression flickered, his mouth twisting

downward.

But quickly, he looked at me sternly.

“Ms. Voss, what have we ever done to you, for you to make

up all this to destroy us?”

“You claim I abandoned my family. But everyone knows my wife Elowen Hale and I have been together for fifty years…”

“Elowen Hale?” I cut him off, pointing at the woman beside

him.

“You mean her–or the Elowen Hale you left in Haven

Hollow?”

The room went dead silent.

Silas Crane’s mouth twitched.

Marlow Veyra jumped to her feet, her chair scraping loudly

against the floor.

“You’re lying! Spouting nonsense! What are you trying to do?”

I ignored her.

I pressed the remote again.

A faded old photograph appeared on the screen.

A young woman with two braids stood under an old oak

tree.

Her face was nearly identical to mine.

I looked at Silas Crane.

“Professor Crane, do you recognize this face?”

Silas Crane stared at the screen.

His Adam’s apple bobbed once.

“This was just a young woman I knew during my aid work in

Africa. She had a crush on me, but I firmly rejected her. Ms.

Voss, don’t use a single photo to confuse everyone.”

“Is that so?” I smiled.

The screen changed again.

Page after page of faded letters appeared.

Key lines were marked with red boxes.

[Elowen, wait for me. I’ll come back for you once I’m

settled.]

[Elowen, just wait a little longer. I’ll get your Federal Resettlement Identity soon.]

[Elowen, you’re the only one in my heart. I’ll give you and

our baby a home.]

I displayed them one by one.

Each was signed in ink: Silas Crane.

No one in the audience spoke.

The camera shutters went quiet.

Finally, the screen stopped at an aid worker profile.

Name: Elowen Hale.

Photo: the young woman from earlier.

My grandmother. Elowen Hale.

The comments exploded completely:

[SO THIS is the real Elowen Hale? Then who’s the woman

next to him?]

[The letters say it all! And he said he rejected her? Lies!]

[Wait–real Elowen trapped in the valley? That old woman is a FAKE?]

Silas Crane pressed his lips into a tight line.

He gripped the edge of the table, his knuckles white.

A drop of sweat rolled down his forehead.

“Unfortunately, she never waited for you,” I said, looking into

his eyes.

“What she got was you running off with this woman. You stole her name. Stole her legal identity. Escaped the valley.

One became a law professor. The other a famous painter.

But the real Elowen Hale was trapped there, labeled a social

outcast her entire life.”

I pointed at the woman beside him.

“She is not Elowen Hale. She is the village chief’s daughter.

Her name is Marlow.”

Marlow’s face twisted.

“You’re lying! I don’t know any Marlow!”

I looked at her and smiled.

The screen showed another photo.

The Marlow in front of me, wearing sunglasses and a black

coat, stood in front of a family shrine.

Incense burned on the altar. She bent over, holding a stick of

incense.

The plaque read: Veyra Family Ancestors.

Marlow’s face went pale.

She opened her mouth, as if someone had grabbed her

throat. She couldn’t speak.

The comments went completely crazy.

Viewers flooded into the live room.

[She stole someone’s identity?]

[Total proof! A chief’s daughter stole an aid worker’s life and

lived in luxury for fifty years!]

[Real Elowen was shamed her whole life. Fake Elowen

became a star artist. I’m horrified.]

[No wonder their son and daughter died young. Karma for

evil parents!]

Silas Crane sweated more heavily.

His neat blazer collar was soaked.

He said nothing.

But all color had left his face.

Then the door opened.

My mother walked in.
