She Asked For A Divorce The Day He Made Her A Public Enemy Chapter 02

As the elevator doors slid shut and the sound faded away, I slowly sank back onto the couch.

My marriage to Jason had begun with a promise between our families.

Ten years ago, I had been my parents’ little princess, cherished and protected.

Then everything fell apart almost overnight—my father’s affair, the collapse of the family business, and a sudden car accident that shattered what used to be a perfect home.

After that, it was just my sick mother and me, holding on to each other. We barely made it to the finish line of my college years before she passed away.

My grandmother entrusted me to an old friend of hers—Miranda Miller, Jason’s grandmother.

Our marriage was arranged by her, and the wedding itself was quiet, almost private.

For the first two years, there was no passionate love between us, but we treated each other with basic respect.

That changed a year ago.

That was when Verena entered Jason’s world—learning voice acting just for him.

The moment she appeared, headlines followed:

[Years of secret admiration, a shared world of voice acting—unspoken love finally finds its answer.]

Jason eagerly opened doors for her, introduced her to contacts, and took her to industry events.

At first, none of that bothered me.

But then the paparazzi started catching them together—late-night meetups, one after another.

Fans began to treat them as a real couple.

That was when it hit me.

What I thought was a stable marriage… wasn’t stable at all.

So I decided to find a job.

The first step in walking away from this marriage was learning to stand on my own.

That night, Jason came home with flowers and a cake.

He must have heard something, because even the way he set the cake down was unusually gentle.

“I’m sorry,” he said. “I didn’t know that role was originally yours.

“But this project means a lot to Verena. It’s based on her favorite novel, and she’s been practicing for this role for three months. I had to secure it for her.

“I promise you—once things settle down, I’ll talk to PR about going public.”

With that, he started unwrapping the cake.

Then his phone rang.

The moment he picked up, the softness on his face disappeared completely.

He scrolled frantically through trending topics and headlines on his phone.

When he looked at me again, his expression had turned into something cold and stormy.

“Stella Grant,” he said sharply, “I never realized you could be this vindictive.

“Verena just fought for a role you wanted, and you go and push this onto the trending page on purpose?”

The call had come from Verena’s agent.

Apparently, someone had been complaining behind the scenes about Verena’s mediocre voice acting—how she had used connections to steal someone else’s job. The conversation had been secretly recorded and leaked online.

The backlash was immediate.

Haters swarmed her with insults. She spiraled—vomiting repeatedly in the restroom, until she eventually collapsed and was hospitalized.

And without a second thought, Jason blamed me.

“Did you forget she’s signed under my studio? We’re tied together now—her reputation affects me!

“Did you even think about the consequences before you did this?”

“It wasn’t me.”

I met his icy gaze and repeated, word for word, “I didn’t do it.”

He clearly didn’t believe me. Pinching the bridge of his nose, he gritted his teeth.

“You think staying out of it makes you innocent? Who else could’ve orchestrated this besides you?

“Let me tell you something—I can find out the truth anytime I want!

“Now. Immediately. Post a statement. Clear this up and apologize to Verena.”

I stared at him, disbelief washing over me.

And suddenly, I understood something.

The reason our relationship had seemed peaceful for the past two years… wasn’t because he loved me.

It was because we had never confronted anything real.

Now that a fundamental issue was right in front of us, the truth was obvious.

In his eyes, I didn’t even come close to Verena.

“Jason Miller,” I said steadily, “based on the three years we’ve been married, let me make this clear one more time.”

“First, this has nothing to do with me.”

“Second, no matter who pushed it onto the trending page, the facts are still facts. Now that she did it, why can’t she own it?”

“I’m the one who lost the job. Why should I be the one apologizing?”

“I’m not posting anything.”

I emphasized the last sentence, every word deliberate.

Before I could even react, Jason swept the flowers and cake off the table.

Petals and frosting splattered across the floor, leaving a complete mess behind.

Fury burned in his eyes, as if he wanted to tear me apart.

“Verena is in the hospital because of you. All her projects and appearances are thrown into chaos.”

“This is going to cause irreversible damage to her—and to the company.”

“Since you refuse to clarify things, then you face the consequences.”

He checked the time with a frown, grabbed his coat, and headed straight for the hospital.

At the door, he threw one last sentence over his shoulder.

“Stop trying to get close to me by learning voice acting.”

“With your level, Verena doesn’t need connections to outperform you. She’s better than you—period.”

I stood there, frozen.

A crushing wave of disappointment surged through me, over and over again—until my eyes burned, and I couldn’t stop the tears from rising.

Not long after, my screen lit up with an overwhelming flood of DMs and comments.

I was about to open them when my phone rang.

“Stella, it’s Kevin.”

Kevin Lee—the coordinator who had handled my contract before. The moment I picked up, he apologized immediately, his voice full of guilt.

After Verena had taken my job, he’d vented privately to a colleague, saying it wasn’t fair—that her skills didn’t match the opportunity, and she’d used connections to take someone else’s role.

Someone had secretly recorded it and uploaded it.

“I’m really sorry,” he said. “I should’ve been more careful. I didn’t think it would blow up like this… this is on me.”

“I don’t blame you,” I said.

After a brief conversation, I learned he’d been suspended for a few days, but otherwise he was okay.

Before hanging up, he reminded me urgently to delete any personal information and photos from my social media.

“Verena’s fans are insane,” he warned.

By the time I opened my account, it was already too late.

My inbox and comment section had completely collapsed under the attack.

I hadn’t had time to hide everything—my photos, my personal details—everything had been dug up and exposed.

They scrutinized every image, picking them apart piece by piece.

Then they found it—a tree in the background of one of my photos that looked eerily similar to one in a picture Jason had posted.

That was all it took.

They immediately labeled me a delusional stalker fan.

[Oh my god, this woman is disgusting—she actually went to his house to take pictures? Can these psycho fans just disappear already?]

[So she pushed that trending topic on purpose to smear Verena, right? Jealous because Verena’s Jason’s girlfriend?]

[I knew it! Verena would never steal someone else’s job—she’s talented enough on her own. This nobody just failed to get the role and is lashing out!]

[Exactly! Verena’s on a whole different level—who even is this Stella Grant? Never heard of her.]

[Stella Grant, just go die.]

The insults didn’t stop.

My photos were edited into fake memorial images, turned into cruel memes that spread everywhere.

And then, I saw my mother’s picture.

They had taken it, added vile captions over it.

Something inside me snapped.

I was just an ordinary person. What right did I have to get dragged into the orbit of a rising star like Verena?

Was this what Jason meant by “face the consequences”?

My hands trembling, I dialed his number, desperate to ask if he had orchestrated this wave of harassment.

But the person who answered… was Verena.

“Who is this?” she said lightly. “Jason’s busy. If you need anything, contact his agent.”

Then the line went dead.

Two days later, Jason came home.

He looked at me sitting motionless on the couch—and there was something almost satisfied in the way he watched me.

I lifted my eyes and studied him carefully.

There wasn’t a trace of guilt on his face.

“You exposed my account,” I said.

He let out a cold laugh, his tone dripping with mockery.

“Now you regret it?”

“Do you have any idea how much time and energy the whole company has wasted cleaning up your mess? People haven’t even had time to breathe.”

“Verena’s been in the hospital, she can’t even eat, and her voice is damaged. She makes a living with that voice—how is she supposed to keep going?”

“I’ve already made some calls. No one in the industry is going to offer you voice work anymore. With your level, you might as well give up.”

“When you mess up, you pay the price. Isn’t that fair?”

A sharp pain pierced through my chest.

All the hurt, all the humiliation—it clogged my throat, leaving me unable to speak.

He had considered everything for Verena.

Protected her, defended her, even stepped on me to lift her up.

But what about me?

I was the one being torn apart online, turned into memes, cursed at by strangers.

Even my dead mother wasn’t spared.

Who was going to speak for me?

I had thought… that once I found a stable job, I could leave him with some dignity.

But now, I couldn’t even wait that long.

“Jason Miller,” I said quietly, “let’s get a divorce.”
