He Built A Garden For Her Flowers But Only To Help His Secret Love Win A Prize Chapter 07

I usually closed the shop early. I only ran it to keep myself 

occupied. I didn’t really need the money. Besides, my clients were all high–end, so just two orders a day was enough. 

I’d finished cleaning and was about to lock up when a hand grabbed the edge of my door. 

I frowned and pulled the door open. The man that had filled 

most of my life for decades stared back at me. 

He looked at me like he was trying to carve my image into his brain, saying nothing for a long time–just like that silent phone call. 

His mouth opened and closed over and over, but no words 

came out. 

Actually, I’d had a bad feeling ever since I picked up that silent 

call. 

But now that we were face to face, I didn’t feel much of anything anymore. 

I never planned to hide forever anyway. Why would I? I hadn’t done anything wrong. The person who should be hiding was 

never me. 

Suddenly he went limp all over and pulled me into a hug. 

His tears soaked through my shoulder. I’d barely ever seen him cry before. 

He buried his face in the crook of my neck. 

“If this is a dream, I wish I’d never wake up, Vanna.” 

Hearing him say that name felt like it was from another lifetime. 

“Do you know how many nightmares I’ve had, Vanna? My sweet Vanna, for so long I kept dreaming you were dead,” he 

mumbled. 

I stood there, my face blank, listening to him cry into my 

shoulder. 

“It’s over now. Vanna’s here, everything’s done. Let’s go home. Okay? We’ll never be apart again. Just give me one more chance. You said it yourself before–you said you’d forgive me 

no matter what mistake I made.” 

He finally let go of me, clutching my arm tightly. 

Forgive? I couldn’t believe he still had the nerve to say that to 

1. me. 

“Sir, if you don’t stop this, I’m going to call the police. I don’t even know you. You’re harassing me, do you understand?” I pulled my arm out of his grip and said sternly. 

“Vanna?” 

“What Vanna? My name is Hazel Lennon, James Lennon’s 

sister. I think you’ve got the wrong person.” 

When he heard James‘ name, his face changed. Back in the day, 

my parents would have rather trusted me to James. But he and 

I were too close, and that was exactly why we could make a 

match. 

But my parents died before they could arrange anything. 

And by then, Charles and I had already developed feelings for each other, so everything just fell into place. 

“You’ve been seeing James, haven’t you?! That bastard took 

you away from me, didn’t he! I knew it! I knew that’s why you 

left me out of nowhere! He tricked you into leaving me!” he 

raved, kicking a nearby object in his fury. 

I looked at his red–faced, frantic state and said, “Since we’re 

already face to face, I have questions for you too.” 

He seemed terrified of the calm look on my face. 

“Back when you hid their real identities, did you ever stop to think that my parents raised you? Did you ever think about 

what we meant to each other? 

“When did you fall in love with her, Charles? Even for one second–did you ever think about me?” 

How ridiculous. He’d fallen in love with my enemy’s daughter while I was busy hunting down the people who killed my parents. 

He went completely silent. He couldn’t answer. 

That told me everything I needed to know. 

It started earlier than I thought. Back when I brought him with me to my parents‘ institute every day, in every small moment, those two had already started growing feelings for each other. 

Just like he said–marrying me was just a way to get Cloris what she wanted, to grow Ash. 

“If everything started before we got married, you never should have tricked me into marrying you. We grew up together, Charles. Do you know what it means to destroy a person completely? No one does it better than you.” 

How was I supposed to face my parents when I died? I even shared a husband with my enemy’s daughter. 

My husband–the boy my parents raised–used all their hard work to lift her up to the top. 

Every time we went to visit my parents‘ graves together, would they really get to rest in peace? 

“Listen to me Vanna, just listen. I was stupid back then, 

Vanna. You’re the only one in my heart, if you were not the 

one…” 

But was Cloris not real? He couldn’t even convince himself of 

that lie. 

“If not me, you’d just get a divorce and be with her, right? Am I supposed to thank you for your kindness?” 

How stupid I was back then. I never saw he’d fallen for Cloris.

I grabbed my coat and brushed past him to leave. 

He stared blankly at my back. He knew the mistake he made 

couldn’t be fixed with a few words. 

And in a dark room nearby, someone watched the whole scene.
