So the father and son had come out shopping for a gift for 

Serena. 

Even so, I could not leave my son with the impression that his 

mother was a bad person. 

I agreed to go shopping with Miles and quietly met Noah’s eyes, blinking three times. 

I deliberately stopped looking at Caleb. 

His long fingers tightened slightly. 

Miles and I entered a menswear store. I deliberately picked up 

a tie and held it against Miles’s neck with intimate closeness. 

The sales associate smiled and said we were a good–looking 

couple. 

I kept feeling a gaze following me from behind. 

I forced myself to keep shopping with Miles for a while and 

helped him pick several pieces of menswear. 

When I turned back, Caleb and Noah were gone. 

I dropped my smile and felt inexplicably exhausted. 

Miles’s voice carried concern. 

“Ava, I know you texted me and asked me to act with you just 

now, but I was still happy.” 

“If you hadn’t married into the Hart family, would we…‘ 

“Are you happy now? Do you need help?” 

I interrupted him. 

“I’m sorry. I did ask you to act with me just now. I really do have difficulties I can’t explain. If there’s a chance later, I’ll tell you.” 

“Miles, I’m very happy. I have an incredibly cute son. You saw 

him. And I love his father very much.” 

“Caleb treats me well. Before the bankruptcy and after it, he has always given me the best of everything.” 

Miles’s eyes dimmed instantly. Then he let out a bitter laugh. 

“As long as you’re happy.” 

Because I was in a bad mood, I spent all the fifteen thousand dollars the System had just given me. 

Thinking Caleb and Noah were not home, I shopped until 

nighttime. 

Carrying bags upon bags, I let desire consume me. 

Muahaha. 

But the moment I got home, I found the father and son sitting 

on the sofa. 

Shouldn’t these two have been at Serena’s place? 

In front of them was a cake and a delicate box. 

Noah yawned when he saw me come back, then opened his bright eyes and said sweetly, “Mom, today is your birthday.” 

Caleb saw the shopping bags in my hands and lowered his 

eyes. 

When I was adopted by the Whitmore family, my birthday on my birth certificate was changed. No one knew my real birthday. 

After I married Caleb, he remembered my real birthday every 

year. 

My heart tightened painfully. 

Looking at Noah’s expectant eyes, I risked a random inspection from the System and blew out the candles, then quickly ate a few bites of cake. 

Caleb took the cake from my hand. 

“Don’t force yourself.” 

I looked at his arm. 

“Why aren’t you back at Cedars–Sinai? Were you discharged?” 

Caleb looked at me, took a box from his pocket, placed it on the 

table, and left again.
