The System finally shut up. 

For once, my head was quiet. 

I pushed myself up from the sofa and rubbed my aching waist. 

After all that, at least the scene hadn’t been a total waste. 

I had figured it out. 

Caleb wasn’t running a fever. 

He was burning up for all the wrong reasons. 

That night, after picking Noah up, I unexpectedly saw Caleb on 

a street corner. 

He was helping someone carry a piano, and a long–haired 

woman stood beside them. 

She wore a dress and seemed to glow in the crowd. 

That had to be Serena. 

It looked like Caleb had indeed taken a TaskRabbit moving gig. 

I was about to take another route, but Noah pointed not far 

away. 

“Mom, it’s Dad. Do we have a task today?” 

“I watched Jim Carrey’s acting interview today, and it felt like something flushed in my brain. Everything suddenly got 

unclogged.” 

I held his hand. 

“Noah, that’s called something clicked. Not flushed. You’re not talking about a toilet.” 

“Come on. No acting today.” 

As we spoke, the system popped out. 

“Why not let the son meet Serena too? Let the heroine save both father and son at the same time.” 

“Compared with your cruelty, the child will instantly like gentle Serena.” 

“New task. Abandon the child on the street. Begin the abuse.” 

This was outrageous. 

How could I abandon my child? 

I blinked three times with my left eye at Noah. 

but 

“A gold star can’t be dinner. Your little face is cute, sure, your appetite isn’t small either. You’re about to empty the whole fridge.” 

“Walk home by yourself today. Lose some weight. Hmph. I have plans. I’m leaving.” 

I raised my voice and glanced at Caleb, who was looking over 

from not far away. Then I called a car and left. 

The whole street was filled with Noah’s crying. 

Pitiful, tragic, and complete with his unique little hiccuping 

sobs. 

He cried like he could barely breathe. 

The System played its triumphant commentary. 

“Serena noticed him. She’s gently comforting him now.” 

“The male lead’s face is so dark. He must be thinking you’re 

vicious for abandoning your own child on the street.” 

“The heroine has appeared. Once you run off with a rich guy and file for divorce, the mission will be fully complete.” 

I had the Uber stop by the roadside. 

Looking at the extra fifteen thousand dollars in my account, 

my heart felt sour. 

I took a walk home. 

Then a car stopped beside me. 

“Ava?” 

Miles, dressed in a suit, called out to me. 

He was the son of an old neighbor. We had not seen each other in years. After exchanging a few words, he invited me to 

dinner. 

Thinking that Caleb and Noah would not be home tonight, I 

nodded. 

But Noah suddenly rushed into my arms. 

His eyes were still a little red. 

“Mom, don’t leave me and Dad. I’ll be good. When I grow up, I’ll make lots of money.” 

Why was Noah here? 

I turned and saw Caleb standing not far away. 

His gaze fell on Miles and me, but he did not move. 

Miles touched Noah’s head, surprised. 

“This is your son? He’s this big already?” 

Noah ducked away and buried his face against my stomach. 

Why was he still acting? 

Couldn’t he see my blinking signal? 

“Yes, my son is already this big. It really has been years since 

we last saw each other.” 

Something like disappointment flashed in Miles’s eyes. 

“Have you been doing well all these years? I mean… maybe we can catch up again sometime. Did you change your number?” 

He called my phone from his, then got back into his car and 

left.
