She Invited Me to Her Wedding, Didn’t Know I Was Already Married to the Groom Chapter 03

Savannah sighed dramatically. “An accident. Such a shame. That poor woman never got to enjoy his success.”

A few more coworkers arrived.

Savannah turned on her happy smile again to greet them.

She didn’t notice my changing expression.

They all crowded around her, jealous of her good fortune, a rich, generous husband who adored her.

Just then, Savannah’s phone rang. It was a video call from Charles.

Everyone urged her to answer.

She blushed and refused. “I want him to see me for the first time today when I walk down the aisle in my dress.”

They teased her. “She wants to surprise him.”

Savannah smiled. “To be honest, my husband’s first marriage had no wedding, no portraits, and he never saw his first wife in a gown. I want to give him a day he’ll never forget.”

She was right.

Fifteen years ago, when I married Charles, he was dead broke.

We had nothing. No ceremony. Our rings came from a gas station for five dollars each.

I poured every cent I had into helping him start his business.

Three months ago, our son suggested we get portraits done.

Charles just smiled naturally. “We’re too old for that. Let’s just do a family photo for Christmas.”

I felt a twinge of sadness then, but I let it go.

I always believed that as long as we had each other, loved each other, nothing else mattered.

He’d forgotten that night in our basement studio, the place we rented for three hundred dollars a month.

He’d held my hand, his eyes red, and promised, “Honey, when I make it, I’ll give you the wedding, the ring, everything.”

But when he finally had everything,

he gave me only betrayal.

Someone gasped. “Wait, he didn’t have a wedding with his dead wife?”

“He said there was no love in that marriage. His parents forced it,” Savannah said smoothly, as if she weren’t gossiping about her own husband.

“He said when she died, he finally felt like he could breathe. Like the sun came out.”

My heart kept tearing apart.

I couldn’t believe Charles would humiliate and belittle our love like that in front of his mistress.

He’d proposed twenty times before I said yes.

But I kept my face calm.

Suddenly, Savannah covered her mouth and gagged.

It looked like morning sickness.

I asked, “Are you pregnant?”

Her eyes sparkled. She nodded. “You noticed? Just found out. Two months.”

Everyone crowded around her again, congratulating her on carrying the heir to a fortune.

Savannah didn’t hide it. “My husband already transferred all his assets to me and the baby. I just started working, and now he wants me to quit.”

“He’s moving us overseas. Says he wants to give us the best life.”

More murmurs of envy. But I felt a chill run down my spine.

Her baby is the heir?

What about my child?

My ten-year-old son, who at eight years old ran into a burning warehouse to save Charles’s life, what about him?
