She Invited Me to Her Wedding, Didn’t Know I Was Already Married to the Groom Chapter 01

She Invited Me to Her Wedding, Didn’t Know I Was Already Married to the Groom Chapter 01

The new intern at my office invited me to her wedding.

Casually flipping through the invitation, my heart seized when I saw the groom’s name, Charles Whitmore.

It was my husband’s name.

I didn’t say anything. There must be plenty of people with the same name, I told myself.

My coworkers laughed and teased her. “Savannah really hit the jackpot. Sure, he’s more than ten years older.”

“But he looks the same age as the rest of us.”

As they spoke, Savannah Clark passed around a photo of her fiancé.

Everyone gasped. They were jealous.

Then I looked at the photo.

It was my husband’s face.

A cold, faint smile crossed my lips.

The day of their wedding, I arrived early.

Savannah, wearing a custom Vera Wang gown, smiled brightly and took my hand.

“Thank you so much for coming, Ms. Morrison. It means the world to me that you’re here to witness my love story.”

A cold, faint smile touched my lips.

Truth be told, I was here to witness their affair.

At the hotel entrance, two life-sized wedding portraits stood on either side.

In the photos, Charles had his arm around Savannah’s waist. They were both grinning, radiantly happy.

Staring at those pictures, I felt something invisible ripping my heart apart.

Savannah, her smile still brilliant, led me toward the guest lounge.

“Ms. Morrison…” She paused, a hint of testing in her smile. “Since it’s a special day, hope you don’t mind me calling you Jennifer instead of Ms. Morrison?”

She’d just graduated college. Only twenty-two.

Her eyes sparkled. Her skin was as smooth as porcelain.

At that age, even without makeup, she was stunning.

Watching her so carefree and happy, I felt a dull, deep ache in my heart.

But I forced a smile and said, “Of course.”

She offered me tea and fruit in the lounge, brimming with the same uncontainable joy I’d felt when I married Charles.

My chest felt stuffed with a rough, heavy stone, tight and suffocating.

That morning, before coming to the wedding, I’d called Charles.

He told me he was still away on a business trip.

On the video call, he acted like a lovesick boy, his eyes full of longing for me.

He even showed me a necklace he’d bought for me.

“Three more days. It feels like forever. God, I miss you, Jenny.”

Several times, I nearly broke down and confronted him. But I held back.

For fifteen years of marriage, in everyone else’s eyes, Charles was a wonderful husband, a great father, and even a model son-in-law.

Before all this happened, I honestly believed he was the best man in the world.

The happiness I’d felt before only made the present pain so much worse.

My coworker, Emma, arrived and shook Savannah’s hand, gushing. “You look beautiful! Just beautiful! So gorgeous!”

Savannah blushed, glanced at me, and said, “It’s just the makeup today. Jennifer is the real beauty.”

Back at the office, everyone knew I was attractive. I’d been voted the most beautiful girl in school.

Even though I was more than ten years older than Savannah, I was still better looking.

But marriage was never just about looks.

I didn’t show any emotion. I just smiled faintly.

Emma leaned in, curious. “Savannah, I heard you and your husband have been together for four years.”

“How did you ever land a guy like him? A real catch.”

She even nudged Savannah playfully. “Got any friends like him? Let me know, I’d get divorced in a heartbeat.”

Four years. Those two words cracked something inside me.

He’d hidden this affair from me for four whole years. And I’d never noticed a single crack in his loyalty.

I kept my face calm as Savannah blushed and answered, “He’s the best gift I’ve ever received.”
