Archer’s POV 

I looked at the long streak of blood on the floor and let out a cold, bitter laugh. 

“Fine. I’ll let you go.” 

Under the watch of the pack elders, Simone and I severed the mate bond. I shouldered all the debts, letting her leave me, leaving my pack. 

That was the last ounce of mercy I had left. 

But from that day, my life spiraled completely out of control. I drank constantly in the pack house. My mother began pleading every day, begging me to stop. 

But every time, I only looked at her calmly. 

“Isn’t this what you wanted? Your perfect, obedient son, under your control forever.” 

“See? I’m listening to you now, staying here with you… 

rotting together as if we were already dead.” 

My mother finally panicked. She cried and begged me to spare her, but I just stared at her, calm. 

“Does crying help? When Harper cried, why didn’t you spare her?” 

“When I cried, why didn’t you spare me?” 

Day after day, the torment broke her. My mother took her own 

life. 

The betas demanded I go claim her body, but I didn’t. I calmly let them handle it—bury it, burn it, it didn’t matter. Harper 

was gone, and so was my life. 

A year later, I could no longer endure. 

The ones I hated were gone. The ones I loved… dead. 

The day I lost control, consumed by thoughts of Harper, I decided to end it. I raised the silver bullet to my heart–but then Harper’s mother appeared. 

“Archer, I really don’t want to intervene… but you are my daughter’s last regret.” 

“Do you know why Harper endured all these years? She suffered, day by day, shrinking, losing her wolf, growing 

weaker.” 

“But every time I told her, ‘Harper, you must hold on. Archer 

is still waiting for you,’ she bit her teeth and endured.” 

“Archer… Harper’s greatest wish while she lived was for you to live well. If you die today, she will never forgive you.” 

“She loved this pack. She loved this forest. She loved this 

world. As Alpha, you must take responsibility. Take care of the pack.” 

Her words shook me to my core. Tears streamed down 

uncontrollably. 

Live well? But without Harper… how could life ever be well? 

In the six years at Alpha Elite Academy, I hadn’t truly lived–I was a walking corpse. 

Back in the pack, I hadn’t truly lived either, suffering every day like I was being torn apart. 

Yet Harper had wanted me to live. That was her wish. No 

matter the pain, I had to live. 

I put down the gun, pretending to be normal. I worked, repaid debts, even handled pack affairs again, trying to regain trust, 

striving to be a capable Alpha. 

Everyone praised me as a good Alpha… but no one knew my heart was already empty. 

I only wanted to accumulate merit, to do good deeds—so that 

in the next life, Harper could be born to a good fate. 

Finally, after years as Alpha, one night during an attack by rogues, I fought to protect the pack. I faced certain death alongside them. 

My beta, the pack doctor, every pack member tried desperately to save me—but I only curled my lips in a faint smile, utterly 

calm inside. 

I was free. I had finally fulfilled Harper’s wish… lived my life 

fully. 

“Harper… I’m coming.” 

Harper’s POV 

I received the news of Archer’s death while planting trees in the garden–my favorite Sycamore tree. 

Years ago, when we used to nestle in my bed and watch Flipped, we promised we’d plant a Sycamore tree together. 

“Harper?” 

My mother’s voice pulled me back. 

“You okay?” 

I nodded. “I’m fine.” 

After collapsing in the restaurant that day, my heartbeat had 

stopped once. 

A witch saved me. 

Though I lost my wolf, I survived. My mother and I didn’t tell anyone. We lived quietly, in our corner of the world. 

After my heart stopped, I decided I would no longer love 

Archer. 

No… I still loved him–but I would no longer like him. I wouldn’t let my heart stop again for him. 

I would live well. Just as I had asked my mother to tell him— 

live well. 

I pressed the soil firmly around the young tree and stood. 

I was the only one left to plant it, but I would watch it grow… until I could climb it, closer to the sky, closer to him.
