When My Wolf Went Silent Chapter 03

When My Wolf Went Silent Chapter 03

Six years ago, when I was first diagnosed with wolf degeneration, my greatest wish was for Archer to forget me.

Forget the mate vows we had shared. Forget the years we had grown up together. Forget me completely.

But now, hearing him speak of seven years ago with such calmness, hearing him speak of me with that same calm, and knowing that he told his future Luna everything about me without hiding a single detail, my chest still ached, tight and raw.

My mother, listening to Simone casually mention my “cheating” and her pointed remarks, instantly had tears in her eyes.

Her lips trembled, her teeth rattling against each other several times before she finally shouted at Archer.

“You and your mother are just as shameless!”

My chest clenched painfully.

I forced myself upright and shouted toward the door. “Mom, come inside, help me into the wheelchair. I need to talk to Archer myself.”

She came in.

Seeing me sitting up, her expression was still tight, but I went straight to her and held her close.

“Mom, just help me fulfill a wish before I die, okay?”

Her eyes welled up, but she was always tender with me. She went to the vanity, grabbed my lipstick and wig, helped me put on my sweater, and layered me in a thick coat.

After my wolf weakened, I was always cold.

Just as she pushed me out the door, Archer frowned.

“What’s your problem? You’ve been spoiled since you were a kid. And even now, you’re still this delicate. You’re just crippled, and you’re making your mother follow you around?”

Looking at the disgust in his expression, I simply smiled.

“The pack doctor said my fracture is serious. I shouldn’t be walking around for a while.”

Simone, standing beside him, immediately spoke.

“Harper, don’t mind him. He’s just used to being abroad. He’s like this with everyone except me.”

A sour ache hit my chest.

Of course, Archer’s scowl was universal. It had been the same with me…

I pressed down the strange pang in my chest and calmly looked at Simone.

“You really want me to come with you to pick the wedding dress?”

“If you really need me, I’ll go with you.”

Simone nodded immediately.

“Of course.”

After exchanging a few more polite words, I finally saw them out.

That night, Archer called. He said he wanted me to accompany him to the bridal shop the next day.

My fingers tightened around the phone.

Part of me wanted to hear his voice.

Part of me was terrified.

It had been six years since I’d had a private moment like this, hearing him speak to me alone on the phone.

Six years ago, I had hidden under my blanket every night, falling asleep to the rich, low timbre of his voice.

Lost in that memory, a female voice suddenly rang out.

“Archer, come help me blow-dry my hair.”

I snapped back to the present and quickly said, “Okay.” The moment I responded, he hung up.

Listening to the beeping on the line, tears welled up without warning.

Even prepared as I was, seeing and hearing him belong to another she-wolf hurt unbearably.

My heart split like a watermelon, tearing apart with a sound so loud, but no one could hear it.

Archer had asked me to be ready at 10 a.m.

Nervous, I had my mother push me outside by 9:30.

But by noon, he still hadn’t arrived. Even the calls I made to him were cut off.

My mother asked me several times to come home.

I refused.
