When My Wolf Went Silent Chapter 01

When My Wolf Went Silent Chapter 01

My Alpha mate was shattered by my betrayal and rejection.

Six years after leaving the pack to study abroad, he finally returned with his future Luna for their Marking Ceremony.

At the same time, I had received my verdict from the pack doctor.

My healing ability was fading, my wolf sleeping like it had been hollowed out.

The pack doctor said I would never recover. I could only return to the pack and wait for my final decline.

Wait for death.

I was pushed through the pack house in a wheelchair, my mother supporting me. The moment we passed through, the air seemed to still for a heartbeat.

And there he was, standing at the driveway of the pack house.

Six years apart, and his presence had transformed.

Archer’s aura was now pure Alpha: cold, steady, sharp. Beside him stood the girl who would be his future Luna.

His gaze lingered on me for only a second. Then the corner of his mouth curved, a smirk full of unmistakable mockery.

If my wolf wasn’t too weak to make a sound, she would have whispered the same words I wanted to say.

I missed him so much.

“Hey,” his voice was soft, but it landed like a blade. “Six years gone. Is this what happens? You can’t even stand straight?”

I said nothing.

I only tugged at the sleeve of my sweater to cover the tiny pinpricks across the back of my hand—evidence of the vital injections the pack doctor had forced and proof of my collapse.

“It’s nothing. I just tripped during training. A simple fracture.”

Alpha Archer gave a low, mocking laugh.

“Since that’s the case, I’m about to start the Marking Ceremony. Come be my future Luna’s bridesmaid.”

I smiled quietly.

“No thanks. I’m going somewhere far away.”

I patted my mother’s hand and signaled her to push me back home.

Not long after I returned, lying back in bed under her care, the familiar sound of high heels echoed outside the door. Slow, deliberate, and commanding in a way only someone used to authority could manage.

The door opened.

Luna Kendra, Archer’s mother, stepped inside.

She had not changed. Six years later, she was still cold, elegant, untouchable. Her silver-gray robe outlined her sharp frame, her high-ranking Luna aura filling the small room with pressure.

Her eyes fell on me, brows twitching faintly. I could not tell if it was pity or disgust.

“Harper,” she said slowly, voice still regal, “I have an uncomfortable request.”

I stayed quiet, watching her.

I saw the faint redness at the corner of her eyes, the guilt in her posture, the way she tried to keep her Luna composure. I did not need her to say more. I already knew why she had come.

Just like six years ago.

Back then, I had just been diagnosed with Wolf Decline. My wolf was dying piece by piece—my bloodline, my self-healing, my life force all fading.

I had curled on the hospital bed, crying until I could barely breathe, unable to accept my fate.

That day, Luna Kendra had barged into my room.

She did not even fix her ragged breath. She fell to her knees beside my bed. The proud Luna who commanded even the elders of the pack now knelt before me.

“Harper, please,” she had said, grasping my hand, her voice trembling. “Archer just received his acceptance to the Alpha Elite Academy abroad. He is the future Alpha. He cannot fail here.”

“If he knew about your condition, he would never leave the pack. You are his fated mate. He loves you so much.”

A glimmer of tears shone in her eyes, but even so, her words were sharp as a blade.

“Leave him.”

“Do not hold him back.”

She had planned everything. A beta boy I did not know. A staged act of infidelity. A kiss meant to be caught by Archer. All I had to do was act cold, act heartless.

After the diagnosis, my first act was not to fight for survival. It was to destroy what Archer and I had built.

I forced myself to reject him, to make him hate me, to make him leave the pack, and then I stayed behind, surviving alone for six years.

The silence ended when Luna Kendra spoke again.

“Harper, do not blame me,” she said, eyes lowered, voice softening.

“Archer’s fiancée now is someone he met at the Academy. She is an Alpha’s daughter. Bloodline, family, ability—they match perfectly. I do not want to ruin this marriage.”

Her gaze returned to me.

“You know how much Archer cares about you. If he ever learned the truth from six years ago,” her voice trembled for the first time, “he might lose his mind.”

The room grew still.

Finally, she said in a low voice, “So for now, can you avoid seeing him?”

“After all,” her eyes swept over my pale, thin frame. Her tone was cold to the point of cruelty. “You are dying soon, aren’t you?”

The word hung in the air.

My mother grabbed the adult diaper at my bedside and slammed it on the bed.

“Get out!” Her eyes were red, her control fraying.

I held her arm, swaying gently, coaxing her like I had when I was a child.

When she calmed, I looked up at the noble, icy Luna.

“Luna,” I said softly, calm in voice, calm in presence, “I can continue keeping the events of six years ago secret.”

“But I cannot stay away from Archer.”

For six years, through countless rounds of chemo, countless wolf surges, countless nights when the pain kept me from sleeping, not a moment passed without thinking of him.

I miss him so bad.
