My Sister Couldn’t Tame Her Alpha? Fine. I’ll Do It! Chapter 10

The door opened. My mom’s face appeared in the doorway.

“You’ve got some nerve-”

Corvax stepped past me. Dropped to one knee. Tilted his head to the side, exposing the mark on his neck-toward the man standing behind my mom.

Grandpa Galloway. Arms crossed, face like carved stone.

In wolf culture, when an Alpha shows a mate’s mark to an elder, it means one thing: your granddaughter claimed me first, and I was happy to let her.

My mom’s anger deflated instantly. Her mouth twitched, then curved, then split wide-smile lighting up her whole

face.

“Mr. Nightveil.” Corvax stayed kneeling, voice steady. “This is my fault. I should’ve come sooner. Whatever you decide, I’ll accept. But Thera’s been driving for two days. If you’re gonna punish someone, punish me.”

Galloway didn’t blink. Didn’t move. Just stood there, stone-faced, long enough that I almost turned around and ran

back to the truck.

“…Come in. Turkey’s getting cold.”

My mom practically yanked Corvax off the ground and dragged him inside. Grandpa turned and walked away, but I saw his expression crack just a little as he passed.

We were in.

Avelina appeared in the hallway, baby in her arms. Hadrian half a step behind her, diaper bag on his shoulder,

bottle in the other hand.

“Careful, it’s slippery here.” He said softly, guiding Avelina around a wet spot by the door. Then he saw me reaching for the baby.

“Thera-support the head. You can’t just scoop her up like a football.”

I froze. Was this the same guy who once told me “a woman should stay where her mate needs her and preferably keep quiet”?

Now he was changing diapers unprompted and teaching me how to hold a baby.

Guess some people don’t change. They just haven’t met the person who makes them want to yet.

At dinner, Hadrian held the baby with one arm and put food in Avelina’s bowl with the other. “This is amazing, I gotta learn how to make this before we leave. You haven’t had a proper meal in days.”

I must’ve been staring too long, because a low voice rumbled in my ear.

“I know how to make all your favorite dishes. Don’t need a recipe. So can you stop staring at your brother-in-law like he did something impressive?”

I coughed. “I wasn’t staring.”

“I can feel your heartbeat through the bond, Thera. Every single beat.”

Fuck the mate bond. Worst feature ever.

After dinner, I cornered Avelina in the kitchen.

“Come to Wintermaw with me. The pack’s restructuring-Hadrian’s archivist position is getting cut. I need someone I trust to manage the books.”

She hesitated. I leaned in closer.

“Plus, don’t you want to see with your own eyes what happened to the woman who ruined your whole last life?”

That did it. That sharp edge she never usually showed flashed in her eyes.

“When do we leave?”

On the way back to Wintermaw, we passed Vance’s yard.

Three half-grown kids were shoving Auriel around. Her designer coat was torn. Her face was blank, like a puppet with cut strings.

Vance sat on the porch. Smoking. Watching. Didn’t lift a finger.

“She destroyed our family.” One of the boys yelled. “Letting her sleep inside is already being nice.”

Another one spat at her feet. “What kind of parents raise someone like you?”

That last line hit something. Auriel exploded-screaming, lunging at the boy. Total chaos. Vance jumped up. The woman next door rushed over to break it up. The whole yard erupted.

We kept driving.

Later we heard: Vance got sent back to his original pack. After that blowup, Auriel disappeared, Nobody knew where she went.

Avelina and I didn’t have time to care. We were too busy.

Business kept growing. Wintermaw was on track to become the richest pack in the western alliance. Avelina and Hadrian settled in. The women’s crew doubled. Life was good.

After pulling two straight weeks of overtime, I fell asleep at my desk three nights in a row.

Corvax-future Alpha King candidate, scariest Alpha in the entire west-threw a fit in bed because his wife didn’t come home before midnight.

I could feel his irritation through the bond. Low and constant, practically screaming “look at me” “pay attention to me”-though he’d die before admitting it if I called him out.

Ugh. Building a trade empire? Easy.

Dealing with a jealous wolf?

Now that’s a real challenge.
