I stared at Vivian’s triumphant smile. 

Even the way she gloated was identical to how her mother had looked twenty years ago, donning my wedding gown and marrying my fiancé. 

Only now, the man by this girl’s side was my own son. 

It was the first time Theo had ever defied me in twenty years. 

He looked straight at me. “Mom, I’m sorry. But I can’t help 

who I fall for.” 

Suppressing the sharp ache in my heart, I rose to my feet. “Come here. I need to talk to you privately.” 

We stayed alone in the study for half an hour. 

Afterward, Theo spoke in a choked voice. “Did you really go through all that twenty years ago?” 

Having laid bare all the past grievances, I felt utterly drained of strength. 

I nodded solemnly. “Now do you understand why I forbid you from being with Vivian?” 

His eyes turned red, yet he said nothing. His gaze alone spoke volumes–he finally knew the whole truth. 

“I know it’s hard for you to take in all at once. It’s fine. I’ll give you all the time you need to think this through.” 

Theo remained silent, soft sobs escaping his throat. 

I turned to leave the room. 

He called out suddenly, “Mom, you’ve suffered so much.” 

I glanced back, my eyes growing damp unconsciously. 

It was the first time anyone had ever said such words to me in 

twenty long years. 

Not even my own mother had ever pitied me in the slightest. 

Soon after, Theo walked out as well. 

All eyes locked onto him. 

Vivian watched him eagerly, and so did I, waiting for him to 

come to me. 

Vivian’s face fell instantly. “Theo!” 

“Mom.” Theo stopped right in front of me. 

I let out a breath of relief and smiled, yet the smile froze on my 

face the next second. 

He bowed deeply toward me. “I’m sorry.” 

“Theo?” 

“Mom, even if you disapprove, even with everything that happened in the past, none of it is Vivian’s fault. I can’t follow 

you into holding pointless grudges. After all, your misfortunes belong only to you.” 

I stared at him in utter disbelief. 

Theo turned around and took Vivian’s hand, his eyes cold as 

they met mine. 

“Mom, I’ve made up my mind.” 

An uproar swept through the crowd, and Vivian brightened 

with joy, clinging tightly to his hand and leaning coquettishly against his chest. 

“What if I say I’ll sever all mother–son ties with you if you stay with her?” 

“Then sever them.” 

I had thought he might hesitate, yet he answered without a single moment of hesitation. 

The son I had raised single–handedly for twenty years abandoned me so readily. 

Tears stung my eyes, yet I forced a calm smile. “Are you certain?” 

“I am.” Theo’s expression was unwavering. 

I suddenly realized how cold–hearted he could be—he was just like my mother. 

“Split all assets and sever our bond completely.” 

“Fine by me.” Theo spoke indifferently. “I’ll earn my own fortune, and you keep yours.” 

“Sir!” My subordinates grew anxious, but I waved them silent. 

“If that’s your choice, draw up the severance papers and sign 

them.” 

Theo froze briefly, yet he signed the documents without 

hesitation the moment they were placed before him. 

I had signed such papers once with my mother twenty years 

ago, and now once more with my own son. 

A bitter smile tugged at my lips. I folded the agreement and stood up. “Then wish you a happy marriage.” 

Without another glance at Theo, I turned and left without looking back. 

Rain poured down outside. My assistant offered to drive me 

home, but I refused. 

“Just hand me an umbrella. I want to walk alone for a while.” 

Alone on the rainy path, another figure blocked my way. 

He stopped right in front of me. 

“Cleo.” Julian’s face appeared beneath an umbrella. “Let’s 

talk.”
