I Used To Heal From Everything He Let Her Do To Me, Until I Couldn’t Chapter 02

Adrian’s gifts included a couture gown from Paris, a pigeon-blood ruby brooch from Sotheby’s, and the keys to a private island villa…

It was as if he could see everything I sacrificed, but somehow never saw my pale face, my trembling body, or the weak sounds I made whenever I was hurt.

No matter how fast I healed, my body still had to endure every second of it.

I still hurt badly enough to cry.

And now, I had lost my healing factor.

I wanted to scream and cry out.

But the second I opened my mouth, a mouthful of black blood came rushing out.

There were dark, unidentifiable clots in it, thick and sticky.

Adrian’s expression shifted.

He ordered someone to give me broth and put me on an IV.

”Evelyn, hold on. At least hold on until Ivy has had her fun.”

Curled in his arms, I smiled.

He thought I had stayed silent for ten years because of one promise, one title.

He had no idea that my unlimited healing factor came from my bond with the Tragic-Plot Survival System.

Every time I suffered, I earned suffering credits.

I had endured all those years only to save enough credits and leave this world.

Now that the mission quota had been met, my power had failed.

All I had to do was wait for the system update to finish, and I could leave.

My heartbeat slowed.

Just before I lost consciousness completely, Ivy finally surfaced.

In my mind, that mechanical voice rang out: [System update progress: 90%.]

When I woke, I was in the hospital.

”Why didn’t you tell me your healing factor was gone?” Adrian’s voice was low, carrying a rare trace of exhaustion. ”You were unconscious the whole time. The doctors said it was dangerous this time. I stayed with you for three days.”

I froze slightly.

The dark shadows under his eyes did not look fake.

The words I wanted to throw back at him caught in my throat.

When he saw my silence, he sighed and cupped my bloodless face. ”Still throwing a fit?”

His thumb brushed over my cracked lips. ”Ivy has been spoiled by me. She’s a little willful, that’s all. Let it go for me, okay?”

My nails dug into my palms.

He was always like this.

No matter how badly she messed up, he brushed it off as willfulness.

Then he expected me to pay for it with my own flesh and blood.

I could not help snapping back. ”Don’t worry. I’m leaving soon. I won’t be in your way anymore.”

”Leaving?” His brows drew together. ”The wedding is already being planned. Where exactly are you going at a time like this?”

”The wedding?” I gave a cold laugh. ”Will your precious sister even allow that?”

He paused.

Then his expression eased. ”So you’re still sulking.”

”Don’t worry. Ivy knows better than that,” he said, his voice softening. ”She’s been very involved in our wedding.”

The words had barely left his mouth when Ivy came running in with a tablet in her arms.

”Adrian, what if we make the wedding’s main color black? It’ll be cool and different.”

I could not help frowning.

Were they planning a wedding or a funeral?

But Adrian only looked at her with a faint smile. ”Sure.”

”And the wedding cake should be mango-flavored.”

I was allergic to mango.

Still, he nodded. ”Whatever you want.”

I cut in, ”I’m tired. Go discuss it somewhere else.”

The room fell silent for a second.

Ivy pouted. ”What is that supposed to mean? Are you looking down on my ideas?”

”Of course not. Ivy has great ideas.” Adrian pulled her into his arms and glanced at me.

”Apologize to her. Apologize, or you can leave the hospital too.”

The last bit of warmth in my chest went cold.

I ripped the needle from the back of my hand, letting blood bead up and run down my skin, then threw off the blanket and got out of bed.

Ivy’s eyes flickered.

Then she planted herself in front of me, hands on her hips. ”Adrian, did she lie to you?”

”If her healing factor is really gone, why isn’t she staying in bed and recovering? Is she just faking it for sympathy?”
