He Left Me in a Fire for Her, Now He’s Looking for Me at His Engagement Party Chapter 08

Ever since Michael found out about my past, he wanted to be with me twenty–four seven. He only left for work again after burning through his vacation days. 

Before he left, he crouched down and gave Lily a very serious list of instructions. Watching them, I couldn’t help but smile. 

Meanwhile, all hell broke loose in the Bennett family. 

Christopher posted a public statement online clearing up what happened back then. Victoria’s lies collapsed. 

Over the years, Christopher had built a following based on being rich, handsome, and secretly heartbroken. 

When he posted his confession and it was his own fiancée he 

was exposing, the internet lost its mind. 

[Wow. The more you dig, the worse it gets. This isn’t a power couple story. It’s nothing but a smear campaign and a cheating fiancée’s lies.] 

[Oh my god, I remember her from high school. She got destroyed online back then. I knew she didn’t do anything 

wrong.] 

Victoria called me, her voice venomous. “Happy now?” 

I stared at my phone. “Happy about what? Don’t drag me into 

your mess.” 

Victoria choked. Then she sounded almost desperate. “Fine. You win. I’ll step aside. Just make him stop coming after my family.” 

I laughed without humor. “I’ll say it one more time. I’m married. I have a child. We’re happy. Get help, Victoria.” 

“You don’t get to not want him! He’s a hundred times better than your broke engineer husband!” 

She was screaming now, unhinged. Then the line went dead. 

The next time I heard about Christopher, it was on a true crime 

show. 

Victoria got hold of sulfuric acid and tried to kill him and 

herself at the same time. She died at the scene. 

Christopher didn’t see it coming. He tried to dodge, but he still 

took most of it. 

One dead. One left scarred for life. 

Later, I went with Michael to visit his old professor at a rehabilitation center. We passed a patient in the hallway wrapped in bandages from head to toe. 

He wouldn’t even look at me. He frantically waved his nurse to 

push him in the other direction. 

An older woman nearby shook her head. “I heard he was quite 

handsome once. His fiancée threw acid on him. Completely 

destroyed his face. Only thirty years old. What a shame.” 

Michael came out of the professor’s room, put his arm around 

my waist, and looked at me curiously. “What are you staring at, babe?” 

I shook my head. “Nothing. I thought I recognized him.”
