As soon as he stepped onto the private jet, Luna, who had been 

waiting inside the cabin, flew over to him like a joyful bird. 

“Gavin! You can finally come on a trip with me!” 

She pulled out a thick travel journal, every page of which was 

covered with photos and ticket stubs, densely stamped with 

souvenirs from all over the world. 

That was the route Luna had taken during her five years of 

“convalescence.” 

Everywhere they went, her uncle arranged for her to have the top–notch security team, the most comfortable itinerary, and 

the most luxurious accommodations. 

He showered her with unconditional affection. 

Yet, just to deceive me, he pretended to be a dying patient 

right by my side for five years. 

Living with me in a cramped, run–down rental apartment, eating the cheapest meals. 

Watching me take off my military uniform with my own hands, running around late into the night for his exorbitantly 

priced “meds,” turning myself into a ghost. Now, just because Luna said she wanted to “travel with her uncle“, he’s spun 

another web of lies, leaving me all alone in that cold, suffocating old house. 

Over the past five years. 

He’s told so many lies that lying seems to have become second 

nature to him. 

But just then, before the cabin door closed, the figure he 

caught a last glimpse of suddenly struck a chord deep within 

him. 

He felt a sudden stab of pain in his chest. 

A sharp pain. 

“Gavin? Why aren’t you talking to me?” 

Luna pouted, her eyes welling up with tears. “If you don’t 

want to leave Sienna behind, you still have time to go back 

now… After all, I’m the newcomer. Sienna hates me, and you… 

you look down on me too. I deserve it….” 

Gavin had heard this countless times before. 

Every time, it made him feel sorry for her and want to make it 

up to her all the more. 

But this time, his brow was furrowed, and for once, he didn’t 

immediately offer kind words of comfort. 

Luna is the daughter of a former subordinate who has since passed away; she grew up with us in the Base. 

After her father died in the line of duty, her mother passed away from illness shortly thereafter. Seeing how alone and helpless she was, her uncle went through the formalities to 

adopt her.

That day, I caught her outside the study. My blood boiled, and 

I raised my hand to slap her. 

Before the slap could land, my uncle–who had been hurriedly summoned back–grabbed my wrist tightly. 

All he saw was my face contorted with rage, and Luna, her 

shoulders hunched and tears streaming down her face, 

pleading: 

“Sienna… I know you hate the fact that my uncle spoils me… 

but I really didn’t do it… If you insist on framing me, I… I’m willing to undergo any investigation, even a court–martial…” 

That slap that never landed eventually turned into a sharp slap 

across my face from my uncle. 

The coldness and disappointment in his eyes were like poison–tipped icicles. 

“Sienna, just look at yourself. Do you even look like a military spouse anymore? You’ve really let me down.” 

That was the first time he ever laid a hand on me. 

From that moment on, the balance shifted irrevocably. 

As soon as Luna started crying, I was being petty and couldn’t accept others. 

Luna left home in a huff because I excluded and pressured her.

She was at a ski resort in the Alps, complaining that her 

private instructor wasn’t professional enough. 

Gavin Gray was silent for a long time. 

The only sound in the cabin was the low rumble of the engines. 

Many scenes he had deliberately ignored were now surging uncontrollably to the surface- 

I remember the sparkle in his eyes when I turned to look at 

him after hitting every target at the shooting range. 

I remember saving some of my allowance to secretly buy canned food for the stray military dogs at the compound gate.

“No one thinks you’re a burden.” 

He finally spoke, his voice a little hoarse. “I came out with you, didn’t I? From now on… don’t say things like that 

anymore.” 

After all, she was the girl he had cherished for years, so he softened his expression and stood up. “I’ll go get you a glass of juice.”
