Chloe was different though.

All these years, Ethan and I had our own arrangements. Women came and went in his life; the longest any stuck around was three months.

He was a natural player, never willing to stick around anyone too long.

I’d thought I’d be the exception, but just three years into our marriage, he couldn’t resist straying again.

Chloe was different—she’d already been with him for two years.

With anyone else, he’d have moved on long ago. This time, he just wanted to cool things off—he couldn’t bring himself to end it.

Once upon a time, I would’ve cried and made a scene, my heart shattered into pieces.

Now I just said flatly,

“Ethan, let’s get divorced.”

Ethan lifted an eyebrow, scoffing,

“Lila, are you having another episode?”

“We agreed to keep things casual—what’s with the sudden fit?”

He rolled onto his side, his long legs bent on the carpet, and reached out to hold my hand half-heartedly,

“Fine, it’s my fault for letting her drop me off.”

“She’s just a young kid—naive. Don’t take it out on her.”

I pulled my hand away, fetched a divorce petition from the coffee table drawer, and set it in front of him,

“I’m serious.”

“I’m seeing someone else.”
