Whispers of The Marked Omega Chapter 08

Whispers of The Marked Omega Chapter 08

Enzo kept every single promise he made. In less than a week, the whole city’s media was flooded with the full truth of the past incident. He held an official press conference and issued a public sincere apology to my father. He also announced that seventy percent of his entire fortune would be placed into a dedicated trust fund solely for Leo’s future.

Before all the cameras, Mia sat huddled in a wheelchair looking pale and ghostly, tears streaming nonstop down her face.

“I’m so sorry I lied. I destroyed his life… I destroyed Jade’s life too…”

My father sat weakly in his wheelchair, his gaze foggy yet fixed steadily on the screen. His lips trembled faintly, then a soft smile tugged at his mouth. Even as tears rolled down his cheeks, he kept smiling warmly. He passed away peacefully in his sleep that very night.

I dressed him in his finest tailored suit and laid him to rest beside my late mother.

Enzo stood far away watching silently the whole time, and I never allowed him to draw near.

A perfect bone marrow match was finally found for Leo, and the surgery was scheduled without

delay.

Without telling me a word, Enzo begged the doctors to use his own marrow for the transplant. On the eve of the operation, he knelt outside the ward door pleading brokenly.

“Please let me do something for him.” His voice was thick with suppressed sobs.

Inside the room, Leo stared out at him with big innocent eyes, his head now bald from repeated chemotherapy sessions. “Are you my daddy?”

Tears spilled freely down Enzo’s face at once. “Yes, I am your daddy.”

“Why did you leave us all alone?”

He buried his face in his hands, his shoulders shaking violently. “I’m a terrible man. I made unforgivable mistakes.”

Leo reached out and patted his head gently. “Mommy says people who say sorry are good people. Will you leave us again?”

“Never! I will never leave you ever again!”

He pulled the little boy tightly into his arms and wept uncontrollably.

“I will spend every remaining day of my life making everything up to you both.”

I turned aside, unable to bear watching any longer.

The surgery went perfectly well. The doctors confirmed his chances of full recovery stood above

ninety percent.

Enzo stayed by Leo’s side in the hospital for a whole month straight. He slept on hard plastic chairs, fed the child his meals, changed his wound dressings and told him bedtime stories every night.

On the day we were finally discharged, the sun shone bright and warm.

Leo held one of my hands, then stretched out his other hand toward Enzo.

Enzo looked straight at me, his eyes brimming with earnest hope. “Come with me, just this once.”

I gave a slight nod in agreement.

We stopped right in front of our apartment building. I spoke softly, “Leo, say goodbye to daddy.”

Enzo’s expression fell instantly. He knelt down and hugged the boy tightly in his arms.

“Listen well to mommy, eat properly and go for regular check-ups. Daddy will miss you terribly.”

“Aren’t you coming to live with us?”

Enzo had no words to reply.

I broke the silence. “Enzo, the surgery cost you over three million. I will pay every penny back to you sooner or later. It may take time, but I will return every single cent without fail.”
