She Has Forty Eight Hours To Live After Her Fiance Admits His Affair Chapter 03

On stage at the graduation ceremony, Mia stood in the spotlight. Dressed in a couture white gown, she was this year’s valedictorian.

Whispers rippled through the student crowd behind her,

“Mia’s so beautiful — like a little sun. She’ll live for all the hundred people who died in that kidnapping.”

Mia smiled softly at me,

“Lila, I’m so glad you came.”

Elias beside me shot me an urging look.

With a blank face, I unfolded the note he’d prepared—a pre-written “graduation message.”

【I’m going through menopause. I lost my temper yesterday and hit Mia accidentally.】

【I’ll track down whoever called her a homewrecker.】

With a bitter laugh, I began tearing it slowly to pieces. I met his furrowed gaze, then reached for the microphone.

“What makes you think I’d give an ingrate a second chance?”

“Let me clarify — the rumors are true.”

“Mia is a homewrecker.”

The audience erupted in an uproar.

Mia froze for a split second, then her eyes instantly welled with tears. “Lila, after all you’ve done for me… I was even willing to accept the child you’re carrying. What more do you want from me?”

A sneer tugged at my lips,

“Are you out of your mind?”

In the next second, she pulled out a red booklet and handed it to me.

A marriage certificate. The wedding date was yesterday.

“Lila, we’re the legal couple,” she said.

I whirled around in shock. Elias muttered nonchalantly,

“Yesterday I remembered we’d never taken photos together, so I treated it as a graduation gift to cheer her up. Don’t worry — I’ll file for divorce tomorrow, and we’ll get married in a month.”

Tears glistening in her eyes, Mia spoke into the microphone, her voice amplified for all to hear. “Lila, you’re so afraid I’ll talk about how your father’s failure got a hundred people killed. But hiring people to post those lies about me… that was low.”

I lifted my hand to slap her,

“What did you say? My dad saved your life!”

A tight grip clamped around my wrist.

Gavin lunged forward from the audience, swatted my hand away with a cold face,

“You’re bullying her like this when we’re here — who’ll protect her when we’re not?”

I stared at him in disbelief,

“Why won’t you stand up for my dad? You know he was a hero!”

Hesitation flickered in Gavin’s eyes. He ground out,

“If we don’t revoke your status as a fallen hero’s child, you’ll keep tormenting Mia. Don’t worry — even without that title, I’ll keep you safe.”

Elias leaned in close to my ear,

“Lila, your father’s already gone. We can’t let anything happen to the living.”

“Make up with Mia.”

In my mind, the system’s countdown ticked relentlessly.

Three hours left.

A laugh tore from my throat, bloody and broken. “And what about me? What if the one who doesn’t survive… is me?”

Elias’s breath hitched.

A commotion broke out in the audience. Someone threw the first blow.

Red paint from a bucket dripped down my police uniform.

“Lila’s dad killed everyone! She’s pregnant and stole someone’s man — how shameless!”

“Her dad’s a murderer, she’s a homewrecker — birds of a feather!”

“Do you deserve that police uniform? Take it off!”

A tide of students surged forward. Hands grabbed at my collar, shoved at my shoulders. Something wet and foul hit my cheek—spit.

Elias tried to rush over, but Mia clutched her head and whimpered,

“Lila, just thinking about what happened back then gives me a headache. Stop forcing me…”

Gavin swept her up in his arms and hurried off, panic etched on his face.

Elias hesitated for a moment, then said softly to me,

“It’s okay — they’re just kids messing around. You’re good at fighting, you won’t get hurt.”

The system’s voice echoed,

“Detected host’s vital signs dropping rapidly.”

But the words blurred into noise.

A roar of insults, jeering laughter, and the relentless click-click-click of shutters filled my ears, drowning out everything else.

I don’t know how long passed before a warm trickle spread in my lower abdomen.

Someone gasped,

“Why’s there so much blood?”

“Could someone die here!”
