Blind Heiress Kissed The Mad Regent Chapter 02

When you’re as nearsighted as I am, everyone gets an automatic beauty filter.

The jagged scars blurred into a soft-focus outline, and all I could see were his sharp, striking features.

I was a total sucker for a gorgeous face, so I beamed up at him and introduced myself without an ounce of shame. “I’m Elara Voss. Trueborn heiress of Voss Estate. Eighteen, and not spoken for.”

Then I launched right into interrogation mode, blunt and eager.

“What’s your name? How old are you? You married? Because if you’re single…” I grinned. “What do you think about me?”

I asked so openly and passionately that Silas’s ears flushed pink beneath his white hair. Every trace of his murderous aura vanished.

He abruptly shoved me away, cleared his throat awkwardly, and scolded, “This is ridiculous.”

Then he turned and strode off so fast it looked like he was fleeing.

I tried to go after him, but my mother rushed over and yanked me back. “That’s the Regent! You can’t act so recklessly,” she hissed.

She pulled me down to kneel in the direction he’d gone.

“Your Highness, please forgive her. My daughter doesn’t understand how things work in the Capital. She spoke without thinking. Please be generous and don’t hold it against her.”

From her seat, Queen Mother Elowen laughed out loud, sounding thoroughly entertained. “I find the girl refreshingly candid. After all these years, that’s the first time I’ve seen Silas blush. How amusing.”

The guests laughed along, and the suffocating tension finally eased.

My father, the Chancellor, let out a relieved breath. He walked over and murmured with approval, “That’s my girl. Cool under pressure. You turned that whole thing around and even got the Queen Mother smiling.”

After that, the adoration in my parents’ eyes only grew.

I still had no clue what had just happened, so I just smiled sweetly and played along.

While I was stuffing my face back at our table, Marlowe approached with a glass of wine, unable to hide her sarcasm.

“Elara, you’re a regular mastermind, aren’t you? A few words and you’ve got the Regent wrapped around your finger.”

“No wonder Mom and Dad have been tripping over themselves to please you since the second you got back. I was their daughter for over ten years, and I can’t hold a candle to you.”

I chewed my pastry and looked up, confused. “Huh? Weren’t you the one who kept throwing me into all those ‘bonding moments’ with them?”

She was the one who’d led me to the attic to dance and down to the Basement Chamber to watch Mother slaughter pigs.

It hit me, and I slapped the table. “Actually, I should be thanking you. If it weren’t for you, how else would I have ended up with a room full of gold and jewels from Mom and Dad, and a chance to actually talk to the Regent?”

I clinked my glass against hers, my gratitude completely genuine.

Marlowe’s knuckles went white around her glass, but she forced a brittle smile. “You’re hilarious, Elara. We’re family. All that matters is that we get along.”

She then proceeded to refill my glass, over and over.

The Gala Champagne was sweet and crisp, and before I knew it, I’d downed several glasses.

As dusk settled, Marlowe helped me up, her voice gentle. “Elara, you’ve had way too much. Let’s get you to the Royal Garden, some fresh air will help you sober up.”

Dizzy, I let her guide me forward. But the moment we hit a fork in the garden path, I turned my head and she was gone.

Unable to see the road ahead, I wandered aimlessly.

I hadn’t gone far when I heard breathless moans from behind a stone grotto and a woman’s sweet coo. “Baby, there’s nobody around. Let’s have a little more fun.”

I listened for a moment, got bored, and was about to leave. But my foot caught on some discarded clothes, making me stumble.

I caught a blurry glimpse of elaborate embroidery on the fabric, a royal crest.

My brain short-circuited. Oh no. The person behind these rocks was the Queen.
