Regret of Two Alphas: I Married the Lycan King Chapter 08

Of course he didn’t.

He and Evander were busy celebrating Arwen’s birthday.

I had called them over ten times, but they thought I was jealous, lying, or cursing at them.

After yelling at me, they turned off their phones.

I walked for hours in the rain.

When I got back, they were throwing Arwen a party to celebrate the contract she “won.”

Roderick noticed the sadness on my face and pulled me close. “It’s in the past. You have me now.”

Mr. Starling couldn’t stop praising me. “That girl drank until her stomach bled. She was so dedicated. We men couldn’t understand why she pushed herself so hard.”

Jareth’s lips trembled. He couldn’t speak.

The day I was hospitalized with stomach bleeding, he was cursing me for pretending.

He thought Arwen was the one fighting for them. But it was me the whole time.

And as for why? Because I truly considered them my friends, I would go to great lengths to help

them.

But they took my heart medication and nearly killed me.

Thinking about the past, I felt like it wasn’t worth it.

I took Roderick’s arm and tried to leave.

Jareth saw me immediately. He abandoned Mr. Starling and ran after me.

His voice broke. “Valeria, why? Why did you do so much for us without telling us?”

“We thought it was all Arwen. I was so stupid. Hit me if you must, I wronged you, I hurt you, I was a

monster.”

I stepped back into Roderick’s arms. “Sir, we were just ordinary business associates. I suggest you keep your distance.”

Roderick and I left together.

Behind us, Jareth let out a desperate, helpless wail.

Once the truth came out, Arwen was fired. And with what happened to me as a warning, no other

pack would take her.

Evander and Jareth started blaming each other.

Evander blamed Jareth for believing Arwen.

Jareth blamed Evander for hiring Arwen in the first place.

Too busy avoiding responsibility, they drank themselves silly every day, letting the pack crumble.

The Ravencrest Pack disbanded soon after.

During the New Year, I brought Roderick home to my family.

As it happened, Evander and Jareth’s parents came to visit.

Evander’s mom held my hand and wouldn’t let go. “It’s such a shame. Evander didn’t deserve you. Valeria, he wronged you.”

Jareth’s mom had tears in her eyes as she cursed her son. “I always said that boy was no good. I know what he did to you, Valeria. I’m so sorry. I thought of you as my own daughter, and he treated you like garbage.”

I patted their hands. I didn’t say I forgave them. I just said, “It’s in the past.”

Evander and Jareth’s moms exchanged a look. Their expressions were complicated.

“Valeria, we know they hurt you. But you grew up together. Could you please talk to them? We’re afraid of what they might do to themselves.”

After hesitating, I agreed. As thanks to their mothers for taking care of me all those years.

Roderick’s face darkened. He wasn’t happy.

I laughed and patted his head. I hadn’t realized he got jealous so easily.

I found them at a bar. Both of them were completely wasted.

When Jareth saw me, his eyes lit up. “Valeria? Is that you?”

Then they dimmed again. “No. Valeria won’t forgive me. I lost her.”

Evander reeked of alcohol. “Valeria? Where? I miss her so much.”

Two alphas who had once been so full of life were now drowning in despair.

I threw a glass of water in their faces. Their eyes cleared for a moment.

They tried to come closer but fell to their knees.

“Valeria, you came back. Does that mean you forgive us?”

“Valeria, I was wrong. Everything was my fault. Please come back.”

I looked at them, disappointment heavy in my eyes. “I didn’t think you two would be this childish.”

“You chose to believe Arwen over me, because of her so-called abilities? No. It’s because

wanted some new woman to fawn over you so you could prove how successful you were.”

you

“And now,

because you can’t handle the guilt of wronging me, you let the pack you built fall apart. You drink all day to escape reality.”

“And you make your parents beg on their knees to clean up your mess. You’re immature. You’re

pathetic. It’s ridiculous.”

Evander and Jareth’s most vulnerable insecurities laid bare, they broke down sobbing.

Evander held onto one last thread of hope. “Valeria, does that mean you still care about us?”

“You can’t let go either, right?”

I almost laughed. Even now, they were still dreaming.

“I came because I was asked to. Don’t flatter yourself.”

I turned and walked away.

In the sunset, Roderick stood with his arms open, waiting for me.

I looked at the sky and thought of that cold winter so many years ago.

We thought we would be best friends forever.

But the tides of fate rise and fall, sweeping so many people away.

I threw myself into Roderick’s arms.

At least I knew he would never leave me.
