He Ran to Save Her from Being Erased, Not Knowing He Erased Himself from Me Chapter 07

He Ran to Save Her from Being Erased, Not Knowing He Erased Himself from Me Chapter 07

That night, a huge storm rolled in.

I woke up in the middle of the night, terrified.

I had always been scared of thunder. Even as an adult, I hadn’t outgrown it.

My parents and the Hartleys weren’t there. They were probably in another room.

I didn’t want to wake them, so I just curled up under the blanket, shaking.

But my mom came anyway.

She rushed in and grabbed my hand. “It’s okay, Elara. I’m here.”

I relaxed a little. The storm outside didn’t seem so scary anymore.

She rubbed my forehead and sighed. “You know, back then, whenever there was thunder, Nolan would run

over in the middle of the night. He knew you were scared.”

“Really?”

“Really. He was so worried about you.”

“I remember one time there was this huge clap of thunder, and you started crying. Nolan ran over barefoot and stood outside our door calling out for you not to be afraid. He caught a fever for days afterward.”

Oh.

I didn’t feel much of anything. I just laughed and said he must have been an idiot.

My mom chose her words carefully. “You really don’t remember him?”

So she thought I was faking too, since all my tests came back normal.

“Mom, I don’t know who Nolan Hartley is. And I don’t like him. My first impression is terrible. Please don’t bring him up again.” I made my feelings clear.

My mom thought for a moment, then softly sang until I fell asleep.

After I was discharged, we rode back to the Hartley house in Mr. Hartley’s car.

The housekeeper had already prepared lunch, and a lot of the Hartley relatives had come.

They were celebrating my discharge.

“Elara, today we’re celebrating your recovery, but we’re also apologizing. Please don’t blame us. We failed as parents.” Mr. Hartley looked deeply ashamed.

I waved it off. He had stayed at the hospital taking care of me for days. He had worked so hard.

Lunch was lively. The Hartley relatives all said nice things, hoping I would forgive Nolan.

They were worried I might call off the engagement. Our families had deep financial ties, and a public breakup

would be awkward for everyone.

But I really didn’t know who Nolan was.

“Everyone, you’re all old friends with my parents. Whatever happens between me and Nolan won’t affect your

relationships. Don’t worry.”

I gave them some reassurance.

That calmed them down.

Mrs. Hartley spoke up. “Elara, when Nolan comes back, we’ll throw you an even bigger engagement party. We

won’t let you be hurt like that again.”

Just then, the butler came in and announced that Nolan was back.

Everyone turned to look at the door.

Mr. Hartley looked hopeful and stood up. “I gave that boy a piece of my mind. He must have come to his

senses. He’s here to apologize.”

But his face fell immediately because Nolan wasn’t alone. Sierra was with him.

Sierra was thin and frail, wearing a white coat and a thick hat. She leaned weakly on Nolan’s arm, standing

nervously at the door.

Everyone froze.

Mr. Hartley was furious. “Nolan, have you lost your mind? How dare you bring her here!”

Sierra flinched and looked down, fidgeting with her sleeve.

Nolan explained, “Dad, don’t scare her. She got scared by the thunder last night and couldn’t stay at the beach house. So I brought her here.”

“You’re all usually not home. I didn’t know you’d be here for lunch.”

“Shut up. You’re insane. Get out of here right now, and take her with you.” Mr. Hartley was beside himself.

Sierra looked even more upset and started crying quietly.
