He Ran to Save Her from Being Erased, Not Knowing He Erased Himself from Me Chapter 02

He Ran to Save Her from Being Erased, Not Knowing He Erased Himself from Me Chapter 02

Then Nolan came on stage.

His tie was crooked, his hair was messy, and his expression tense and strained. His lips were pressed into a thin line.

Our families finally relaxed. They started clapping and whistling to lighten the mood.

The emcee grabbed the microphone, ready to start.

But Nolan ignored everyone. He walked up to me, took my hand, and said in a hoarse voice, “Elara, I’m sorry. I have to leave for a bit. Can we push the engagement back a month?”

“Why?” I looked at him, suddenly feeling like my eyes weren’t as bright as Sierra’s. I couldn’t tell if he still loved me or not.

Nolan hesitated, his gaze shifting. Then he mumbled, “The date isn’t good. We’ll pick a new one next month.”

“Is something wrong with Sierra?” I cut straight to the point.

Nolan froze. His face changed a few times before he forced out a weak smile. “Sierra is in the hospital. Terminal cancer. The doctor says she has about a month left. I had someone check. It’s true.”

So that was why he took so long. He had someone verify it at the hospital.

“I guess what she said all along was true. If she fails to win you over, she’ll be punished.” I tilted my head.

This wasn’t a secret. Sierra had told Nolan a long time ago that she had to make him fall for her, or she would die.

For her, it had always been him or nothing.

“Yeah. She got a harsh punishment. She’s going to die from cancer.” Nolan sighed and pressed his lips together again.

He used to hate Sierra. Being chased for seven years wears out anyone’s patience.

He even lost his temper once and hit her. She curled up on the ground crying and apologizing, saying she couldn’t help it. She just loved him.

“Crazy.” That was what Nolan always called her.

But now, his attitude seemed to have changed.

“The engagement won’t take long. Maybe we can finish and then go see her together.” I offered my suggestion.

It seemed completely reasonable.

Nolan’s face shifted again. He glanced down at his watch and said urgently, “I should go see her first. You should stay here and rest.”

He turned to leave.

I felt tears building up behind my eyes. I looked down at my dress.

My white dress wasn’t a wedding gown, but it was just as beautiful. So why did it look so cold and sad, like fresh snow?

“Let’s finish the engagement first. It’ll be quick.” My voice shook when I spoke again.

Nolan turned back and took a deep breath.

“Elara, I don’t want to lie to you. Sierra said that if I go through with this engagement, her mission fails immediately, and she’ll die. So can we wait?”

His voice was soft. “No matter how annoying she is, she’s still someone who loved me for seven years. She doesn’t deserve that kind of ending.”

I smiled bitterly.

So Sierra’s mission hadn’t failed yet. She was still fighting.

I had so much I wanted to say, but looking at his anxious face, I couldn’t get the words out.

He really wanted to be with her right now. Not even a second longer here, not even for our engagement.

So I just stood there in silence, tears finally falling.

Nolan gently brushed my hair and walked away.

Everyone was stunned.

Relatives called out to him from the audience, but he didn’t hear them. He headed straight for the door.

I looked up, my vision getting blurry through the tears.

Through the haze, I watched his back getting farther and farther away.

The moment he stepped through that door, the world spun. A sharp pain stabbed through my head, and I collapsed.

“Host mission failed. All memories of Nolan Hartley will now be erased.”
