My Fiancé Married My Best Friend Chapter 06

My Fiancé Married My Best Friend Chapter 06

When Xavier kissed me, I didn’t push him away. I kissed him back.

When it ended, I turned my head. My gaze swept across the crowded room. And there he was. Liam. Even

across the packed, glittering ballroom, I could see the desperation burning in his red-rimmed eyes.

He finally moved, like a man stumbling out of a nightmare. He pushed through the well-dressed guests, his

eyes locked on me. He stopped at the foot of the dais. His face was shattered. Lost.

“Nina… what is this?” His voice scraped like a blade. “Have you lost your mind? I’m your husband! How could

you do this? How could you marry him?”

Xavier shifted, placing himself between Liam and me. “Husband? Your marriage license has another woman’s name on it. You gave up every right the second you signed it.”

“No!” Liam’s eyes snapped to me. He lunged forward and seized my wrist. “Nina, wait, please! Once the

baby’s born, I swear I’ll divorce her-”

Before he could finish, Xavier’s hand clamped around Liam’s forearm. Liam’s face went white with pain.

“Take your hands off my wife,” Xavier said.

He didn’t wait for him to obey. His other fist slammed forward. The sharp crack of bone on bone echoed

through the suddenly silent hall. Liam staggered back. Xavier didn’t let go. A second blow, this one square to

the abdomen. Liam doubled over, gasping. A third. A clean hook to the jaw. Liam crashed to the polished

floor.

Liam lay there, panting. Blood trickled from his split lip. His eyes were glassy. Pain and shock tangled together as they found mine. “Nina… you’re mine… you’re my fiancée…”

I stepped out from behind Xavier, my ivory gown pooling around me as I looked down at the man I’d once

thought I’d spend my life with.

“Liam Russo. We’re done. My husband is Xavier Thorne.”

“No.” His eyes went wide. “Nina… the things I said… I didn’t mean any of it. I swear, I never meant to cancel

the wedding…”

“But I did,” I said. My voice was steady. It carried through the silent room. “I don’t want to marry you

anymore.”

“You slept with my best friend for two years. You got her pregnant. You married her. You used my past as a

knife and humiliated me with it. You called me dirty to my face. For five years, I gave you everything. My

loyalty. My trust. My love. And you repaid me with betrayal. I will never marry a man like you.”

With every accusation, his face drained of more color. He scrambled forward on his hands and knees. His

bloodied fingers clutched at the delicate lace of my train. “Nina… please. I’m sorry. I know I was wrong.

About Chloe. About everything… Please. Don’t leave me like this.”

That was when Chloe arrived. Breathless. Her face flickered from shock to raw pain as his words sank in.

She grabbed him and yanked him up. Her voice was sharp. “Liam? What did you just say?”

He didn’t even look at her. His eyes stayed locked on me. Desperate. “Nina. I figured it out. It’s you. It’s always

been you. Chloe and I… it was a mistake. A fling.”

“A mistake?” Chloe’s voice cracked. “Two years? A marriage license? A baby? And you’re calling it a mistake?” She shoved him away. Tears streamed down her face. “I betrayed my best friend for you! I lived in the shadows for you! And you’re telling me none of it mattered?” She looked at me. Broken. “He told me he

loved me.”

She turned and ran. A blur.

Liam hesitated. One second.

“Nina… she… the baby… I have to…” He stumbled backward as he stammered. “I’ll make this right. I’ll come back for you. I promise.”

He went after her. The same as always. Even now, he chose her. Left me standing there alone.

The old Nina might have shattered. Felt the sting of abandonment all over again.

The new Nina just found him laughable.
