Aurora’s POV

A week later, I received a letter from the royal physician.

The chronic poison in my parents’ bodies had been purged. They were out of danger.

I breathed a sigh of relief. Despite their favoritism toward Seraphine, they were still my parents. I couldn’t just stand by and let them die.

Draven leaned back in his chair, watching me lazily. “What’s on your mind?”

“Thinking about how to repay you.” I walked over and settled onto his lap. “You’ve done so much for me. I owe you.”

Draven raised an eyebrow, amusement flickering in his dark gold eyes. “Oh? And how does my wife plan to repay me?”

My face heated. “I-I could forge you a magic sword! I heard your Dragonflame Blade got damaged in the last battle-

“Don’t bother with that.” Draven cut me off, pulling me closer and murmuring against my ear. “Just give me an heir.”

He silenced me with a kiss.

The next day, Draven had to handle royal business.

I took the chance to slip out and head to Twilight Market. I wanted to gather materials for that magic sword anyway. If I was going to forge one, it would be the finest blade on the entire continent of Aetherlandis.

Twilight Market buzzed with energy, vendors hawking their wares from every corner.

I walked into the familiar alchemy supply shop. The owner-a dwarf-practically glowed when he saw me.

“Your Highness! You should’ve sent word ahead-

‘No need for formalities.” I smiled. “I need materials for dragon weaponry. Starfall iron, phoenix tears, and dragonscale grass-‘

Before I could finish, a weak voice came from the doorway.

“Aurora…”

My chest tightened. I spun around.

Kelvin stood there looking like death warmed over. Since House Ashvale lost its title, he’d gone from noble heir to street trash.

“What are you doing here?” I asked coldly.

Kelvin staggered inside. “I’ve been waiting for you. Knew you’d come here eventually.”

Warning bells went off in my head. “What do you want?”

“Love?” I cut him off. “You wanted to make me your SLAVE. Save your breath.”

Kelvin went pale. His mouth worked but nothing came out.

I turned to leave.

“Aurora, WAIT!” Kelvin lunged and grabbed my wrist. “I need to tell you something-about the antidote for your parents-*

I jerked free. “Not interested.”

“The royal physician’s medicine only suppresses the poison-it’s not a CURE!” Kelvin said desperately. “I know where the real antidote is! There’s a magic tower nearby-

I hesitated.

“How would you know that?”

‘I researched everything trying to treat Seraphine,” Kelvin said quickly. “Aurora, trust me-I wouldn’t hurt you!”

I studied him for several long seconds. Every instinct screamed not to believe him. But my parents’ lives hung in the balance.

He led me through several winding streets to a run-down building,

Kelvin’s face twisted. Then he smiled-wild and unhinged.

“So you caught on.” He laughed. “Fine. Aurora, I spent every coin I had learning this forbidden spell-a Love Bind ritual Supposedly it makes someone who loved you fall for you again.”

I stared at him. “You’ve completely lost it.”

“YES! I HAVE!” Kelvin shouted. ‘I only figured it out after losing you-you’re the ONLY person I’ve ever truly loved! But now you’re happy in Draven’s arms-why? How DARE you move on from me so easily?’
