He Loves The Ancient Soul In My Body Chapter 02

He Loves The Ancient Soul In My Body Chapter 02

I lowered my head and told him the truth.

“I’m not from this world; I belong to another one entirely.”

“Maybe Charlotte is in my body right now, living my life for me…”

I didn’t hide anything; I told him the whole story.

I told him I came from a future world and that my name was Emily Harrison.

I looked up at him nervously. “William… you’re not going to burn me at the stake or anything, are you?”

William stared at me, then let out a quiet laugh. “You’re my wife. Why would I do that?”

When I looked into his gentle eyes, my heart skipped a beat.

Later, when my mother-in-law bullied me and the other noble ladies shunned me, William always stepped in to protect me.

One day, while on a retreat to a convent, I ran into bandits. During the struggle, I fell from a runaway carriage.

When I woke up, I was lying in bed with William beside me, holding my hand. His eyes were red.

“Emily, you’re finally awake. I thought you were going to…” His voice broke.

For someone so elegant and composed, his eyes were actually watering.

I found out later that he had been away on business when I got hurt.

When he heard the news, he rode back from a hundred miles away and ran two horses to death.

The physician said the duchess had hit her head and might not make it. William knelt in the family chapel for an entire day and night.

Even though he knew I wasn’t really Charlotte, he still worried about me and grieved for me.

He was such a good man. How could I not miss him, knowing I might never see him again?

That night, Christopher had sobered up somewhat.

He pulled me outside to sit on the rooftop and look at the stars.

When we first got married, we used to love doing that after stressful days at work.

We would talk and relax, and our relationship would grow stronger every day.

Now, the two of us sat side by side in rooftop chairs, looking at the stars just like before.

But our minds were elsewhere, and everything had changed.

“Emily, you probably never imagined this, but the woman living in your body for five years, Charlotte… she was completely different from you.”

Christopher rested his arms behind his head and stared up at the night sky.

A small smile played on his lips as he spoke.

“When she first showed up, I was terrified.”

“You were in a coma for a while. When you woke up, you didn’t recognize me. You didn’t recognize anything in the house. You didn’t even know how to use the water heater.”

“When I asked who she was, she just cried. She curled up in a corner with her knees to her chest and cried like a child.”

“I thought, Well, that’s it. My wife has lost her mind.”

Christopher laughed at the memory, but there was tenderness in his voice, affection.

“Over time, she learned how to talk like us. But her words were always so formal, like someone from a period drama.”

“When I asked her name, she said she was Charlotte Fairchild, the Duchess of Crestwood from the Kingdom of Eldoria.”

“Of course I didn’t believe her. I thought she was delusional. I took her to several therapists.”

“But she left every single one of them speechless. Finally, an old professor told me quietly that this girl’s knowledge of ancient customs and traditions didn’t seem fake. She seemed like a real person from the past.”

Christopher smiled bitterly. “Later I found out she really was a duchess.”

I said, “I know.”

After all, I had spent five years living as Charlotte.

Other than Charlotte herself, I was the person who knew her best in the world.

Christopher opened up after that, and the memories came flooding back.

“Did you know when she first got here, she walked as if afraid of soiling her feet?”

“The first time she saw an elevator, she turned white as a sheet. She hid in the corner and refused to come out. I had to hold her hand and walk her inside.”

“The first time she rode in a car, she got so carsick. She threw up all over me. She started crying and said, ‘Sir, I didn’t mean to. Please don’t send me away.'”

“She called me Sir for months. It took her forever to start using my name.”

“The first time we stayed resting in the same room, she sobbed uncontrollably. Her eyes were all red and swollen, like a scared little rabbit.”

When I heard that, my fingers curled tightly into the blanket on my lap.

Because in another world, I had been just as lost and helpless as she was.

But Christopher never really cared about any of that.

He never even asked where I had been for five years, who I had met, or what had happened to me.

He just kept recounting his memories with Charlotte.

And I listened to him, lost in my own memories too. Memories of William.

Our first night together.

He knew from the beginning that I wasn’t really Charlotte.

So on our wedding night, he took his blanket and slept on the step beside the bed.

For the next two years, he kept his distance and behaved like a perfect gentleman.

Then one day, he was hit by an arrow meant for me, tipped with a strong aphrodisiac. If he could not get the remedy in time,he would die.

“Emily, if you don’t want to do this, I won’t touch you.”

“Even if it means becoming husband and wife for real, I’ll wait until you’re ready.”

His face was tight with restraint, but he held me at arm’s length like a true gentleman.

I didn’t hesitate for a second, I chose to stay by his side and do what I could to help him.

William still stopped me, his expression pained. “Emily, have you really thought this through?”

Back then, I thought I would never make it back to my own world. I was ready to stay in that ancient world forever, just to be with him.

I gave myself to him, kissing him first. “William, I’m your wife. There’s nothing wrong with that.”

That night, I learned that a man could be a perfect gentleman even in bed.

I was still lost in those five years when suddenly Christopher stood up in front of me.

He said, “Emily, you can’t stop me from researching way to travel back to Charlotte.”

His face was hidden in the darkness. Yet I could still see the light in his eyes.

“Nobody can stop me.”
