The Wedding Is Off, and So Am I Chapter 08

Celeste naturally refused to go.

She clutched her stomach, closed her eyes, and pretended to

faint.

But Mrs. Sterling was too sharp. She saw right through the act. She grabbed a bottle of champagne and poured it over

Celeste’s face.

The wine went up Celeste’s nose, and she coughed

uncontrollably.

Her fake fainting failed, so she started crying and throwing a

tantrum.

“Lucas, your mother is humiliating me for Vera’s sake, and you’re just going to stand there?”

“Don’t forget, I’m your legal wife.”

She whipped out their Marriage Certificate.

Mrs. Sterling stared at the official stamp and date. Her face turned green with rage.

She turned around and slapped Lucas across the face.

“So that’s why Vera left so decisively.”

“You’ve already married this–this thing.”

Mrs. Sterling’s chest heaved. Then she clutched her heart and

collapsed.

Lucas was terrified.

He scooped his mother into his arms and quickly dialed 911.

But Mrs. Sterling was afraid that if she went to the hospital,

Lucas would actually marry Celeste. She clung to his hand.

“Lucas, everything I said is true. If you keep being so stupid,

Vera will never forgive you.”

She seemed to remember something. She pulled out her

phone, unlocked it, and started scrolling through photos.

I don’t know what Lucas saw, but his pupils contracted.

He immediately called his assistant and told him to check the

hospital where Celeste had her surgery the day before. He

wanted to know whether she’d actually had her uterus

removed.

The assistant moved fast.

Money could make anything happen. The doctor Celeste had

bribed had no conscience. He spilled everything, including the

fact that he’d been paid off.

To avoid Lucas’s wrath, the doctor even provided the real

Surgical Record from that night.

It turned out Celeste didn’t have a baby in her belly. She had a

tumor.

And her uterus had indeed been removed when she was eight

years old to save her life.

She’d chosen to stage her fall yesterday because that was the

day she was scheduled for a minimally invasive tumor

removal.

She’d turned her own surgery into a scheme to ruin my

marriage.

I watched coldly as Lucas’s face turned to ice on the video. I

could feel the cold fury radiating from him even through the

screen.

But Celeste still didn’t know her act had been exposed.

She clung to Lucas’s arm, batting her eyelashes and rubbing

her chest against him.

Lucas looked up, his eyes like ice. He pushed her away and

ordered the wedding canceled.

Celeste immediately started crying and tried to press herself

against him.

“Lucas, I know your mother doesn’t like me, but we’re already married. I’ll try harder to make her like me. I’ll be the daughter–in–law she’s always wanted. Please don’t cancel the

wedding.”

“Vera is gone anyway. If she doesn’t want to marry you in three years, I’ll be your wife forever. And I won’t ask her to

have a baby for me anymore.”

The next second, Lucas slapped her.

He shoved his mother’s phone in her face.

“How long were you going to keep lying to me?”

When Celeste saw that the doctor had sold her out, her face

went white.

Her eyes darted around as if looking for another lie.

But then Lucas’s assistant showed him another video, and she completely deflated.

It was the security footage from the neighbor’s house.

The video clearly showed that I never touched Celeste. She fell

on her own.

And all the vicious things she’d said to me when Lucas wasn’t there were clearly audible to everyone.

Lucas had had enough. He pushed Celeste away when she tried to throw herself at him again.
