I don’t know how long later, I was woken up by a sudden rush of cold air.

Shivering, I opened my eyes to find Orion and Isadora standing over me, their faces livid with anger.

“You actually pushed Selene into the water? Were you trying to kill her so you could take her place and be with Zephyr?”

“As long as I’m alive, I will never let that happen! You are not worthy of Zephyr. Face reality and stop deluding yourself!”

Hearing their furious shouts, I felt a chill run through my entire body, my eyes slowly filling with despair.

The pain that had been suppressed inside me for years finally erupted completely.

“I’m not worthy? Is she? If you hadn’t lied and faked proof, Zephyr would never have even looked at her! Aren’t you ashamed of stealing my destined mate and handing him to her?”

Seeing me talk back, Isadora’s face flushed red with rage. Orion raised his hand and slapped me across the face.

“You ungrateful child! We are your parents. Your life and everything you have came from us, and we can take it all back whenever we want, give it to Selene whenever we want. Who do you think you are to object?”

“If you dare reveal the truth again, just you wait—”

Before he could finish, the hospital room door was shoved open.

Zephyr walked in, frowning. “The truth? What truth?”

Seeing him suddenly appear, Orion and Isadora were both startled, their speech becoming stuttered.

“We were… just disciplining this ungrateful daughter, making her tell us why she pushed Selene into the water.”

“Yes, yes. She refuses to admit it. Isadora and I were about to lose our minds, not knowing how to punish her.”

They exchanged a glance and smoothly changed the subject.

Zephyr didn’t think much of it. He looked at me, his gaze icy.

“Since she still won’t admit her fault, lock her in the Blackveil Cavern. She can stay there until she realizes her mistake.”

They all thought it was a great idea and immediately called for betas to take me away.

Holding my swollen cheek, my eyes were hollow and numb.

I knew resisting would only invite harsher punishment. So I didn’t fight back, letting them drag me away.

Shrouded in the eerie, bone-chilling cold of the Blackveil Cavern, I could only hug my trembling body, shivering uncontrollably.

In a daze, I remembered the abandoned caves of the Mooncrest Pack, the stormy nights Zephyr and I spent huddled together for warmth.

Back then, he would take off his coat and put it around me. He would hold my hand tightly, pull me into his embrace, and tell me over and over, “I’m here, don’t be afraid.”

Sweet memories and harsh reality intertwined, tearing me apart.

Time passed, minute by minute. Hungry and freezing, my consciousness started to fade, when I saw the door open.

Zephyr walked in, his expression cold, his gaze sharp. “You’ve been locked up for a day and a night. Have you admitted your mistake?”

“Yes. I was wrong, completely wrong.”

Crouched in a ball, I barely managed to force out a hoarse whisper in reply.

Seeing the satisfied look on his face, I stumbled to my feet and left, murmuring in my heart.

I was wrong to believe his promises, wrong to have loved him.
