When I opened my eyes again, I was standing in the backyard of Sunshine Home.

Ethan was flying kites with the children in the yard.

The wind blew the colorful kites very high.

The children laughed and ran across the grass. Sunlight fell on their faces, so bright it almost hurt.

When Ethan saw me, he immediately put down the spool and walked quickly toward me.

“Where did you go?”

“I’ve been looking for you everywhere.”

His eyes were full of worry.

Warmth filled my heart. I shook my head.

“I’m fine.”

“I just went to deal with something from the past.”

He didn’t push.

He only draped his jacket gently over my shoulders.

“You’re back. That’s what matters.”

A little girl ran over with a crayon drawing in her arms and looked up at me.

“Miss Ivy, look. I drew our home.”

On the paper was a small warm yellow building.

There were many children in the yard, and a taller woman beside them.

Beside it, in crooked words, she had written:

Miss Ivy and Us.

I crouched down and pulled her into my arms.

“It’s beautiful.”

She asked softly, “Miss Ivy, will you leave again?”

I looked into her eyes and smiled gently.

“No.”

“I’m home.”

Those people I had once loved, hurt for, and hated…

From this moment on, they had nothing to do with me anymore.

I was finally no longer someone’s mission.

No longer someone’s sister.

No longer someone they could hurt and then regret hurting when it was too late.

I was Ivy.

Just Ivy.

And this was the home I chose with my own hands.
