I looked away from them and said in a low voice, “System, shut off the life-support machines.”

“Beep-‘

A long tone rang through the silent room.

That sound shattered their final fantasy.

The monitor beside the body on the bed went flat.

Victor braced himself against the wall, his whole body looking drained.

Leon fell to his knees, covered his face tightly, and cried so hard his shoulders shook.

Nolan threw himself beside the bed like a man who had lost everything, calling my name again and

again.

I looked at them and said calmly, “Ivy Grayson is dead.”

“If you keep forcing this body to stay alive, you will only destroy this world.”

Caleb, however, stayed strangely silent.

The obsession in his eyes grew darker.

“I won’t let you leave.”

He took a palm-sized device from his pocket and pressed a button.

The system immediately let out a piercing alarm.

Caleb walked toward me, his eyes wild.

“This is an energy jammer Nolan and I made together.”

“We designed it specifically to stop the system from taking you away.”

I was furious and slapped him hard across the face.

“You’re insane!”

But he held me tight.

“I am insane!”

“I lost my mind the moment you died.”

His voice shook with tears.

“Ivy, don’t leave me.”

“Please. I can’t live without you.”

Victor, Leon, and Nolan said nothing.

But the same obsession in their eyes told me they thought the same way.

At some point, tears had covered my face.

I wiped them away hard and suddenly calmed down.

“You know what?”

“I was an orphan.”

“There was a time when I truly thought about staying here forever.”

“More than the reward, more than anything in my original world, what I wanted most was the love

you gave me.”

But they had broken that love with their own hands.

Then they had stepped on my heart for far too long.

In the end, even looking back hurt.

I looked at them, each one trapped in unbearable pain.

“But now, I have a new home.”

“I have people who truly care about me.

“I will not stay here anymore.”

“Worst case, I’ll die again.”

“I was living on borrowed time anyway.”

Caleb’s arms around me suddenly loosened.

The obsession in his eyes slowly turned into despair.

“I’ll let you go.”

“Ivy, I’ll let you go.”

He released me.

Then he suddenly bent down, picked up the knife on the floor, and drove it into his own chest

without hesitation.

“Caleb!”

Victor rushed toward him, but it was already too late.

Caleb fell to the floor. His eyes stayed fixed on me, full of desperate attachment.

“I owed you.”

“So I’ll pay with my life.”

“Ivy, don’t hate me, okay?”

I turned my head away.

Tears were still falling.

But my heart was unusually firm.

The familiar pulling sensation came again.

Before I left, I heard Victor, Leon, and Nolan whisper, “I’m sorry.”

Their voices were full of regret and despair.
