He Turned My Exam Into a Joke, I Turned the Page Chapter 12

The wind carried the scent of the sea, making the school flag sway softly.

I stood in line, looking down as I checked my enrollment paperwork.

“Where are you from?” the boy in front of me turned around and asked.

“Northbridge,” I said.

“No way, we’re from the same hometown.” He smiled. “We can hang out, and when we have time, we can even fly back to the States together.”

“Can we exchange contact info?”

I nodded.

I took out my phone and was about to open Instagram.

Suddenly, a large hand with defined knuckles pressed down hard on my phone screen, the joints turning white from the force.

“She doesn’t want to be friends with you.”

The boy curled his lip and turned back around.

“Luke,” I said, my gaze landing coolly on the person beside me, “that was incredibly rude.”

Luke suddenly gripped my shoulder.

His eyes were bloodshot. The bright arrogance that had once filled his features was gone,

leaving only obsessive panic behind.

“Sienna, were you planning on never contacting me again for the rest of your life?”

I gave no answer.

“Say something!”

His emotions were almost completely out of control.

Plenty of people around us were looking over.

“Yes,” I said. “Luke, we ended the moment you ruined my practice SAT.”

“When I said we were done being friends, I was never joking.”

“Why?” he pressed. “Sienna, it was just a prank. You’re really going to throw away our

promise over that?”

Luke’s face was full of confusion.

It was as if I were the villain here. As if I were the petty one, the one who had broken faith, the

one who had chosen to leave him behind.

I sighed. “I made a bet with my mother.”

“For all three years of high school, I had to rank first on every exam if I wanted to stay in the

States.”

“Otherwise, I had to go along with her plan and move overseas.”

Luke froze.

The force of his hand grew heavier and heavier, hurting my shoulder.

“Why didn’t you tell me earlier?”

“I didn’t want you to worry,” I said. “At least, that was what I used to think. I was afraid you would be like me, unable to eat or sleep, trapped every day under crushing pressure.”

Luke shook his head.

His face turned paler and paler. His hand slipped from my shoulder and fell weakly to his

side.

“I’m sorry…”

“Sienna, I ruined everything. I’m sorry…”

I did not need his apology.

I just wanted him to leave me alone for good.

“I’ll study here. You go back to AU.”

“Don’t bother me again.”
