His Love Letter Was Meant For Someone Else Chapter 08

I didn’t let out that breath of relief until Elijah’s back was completely out of sight.

He ran off clutching his cheek, too shocked to react, gritting his teeth the whole way.

I knew he was ridiculously proud. After I humiliated him like this, he’d never come near me

again on his own.

But men held grudges. We’d both gotten a second chance at life, and I was terrified he’d

come after me to get revenge on purpose.

So I stopped going out unless it was absolutely necessary, and when I did go out I stuck to

crowded places.

After weeks of walking on eggshells, things went exactly as I expected-Elijah never showed

his face again.

I slowly started to relax. That was when a friend texted me, and I realized it was the day the

SAT scores came out.

My friend had overperformed, she was guaranteed a spot at her dream school.

I was so happy for her-that university was also in Cambridge. We’d be even closer now.

After catching me up on her life, my friend got mysterious and told me what was going on

with Elijah and Janet.

I didn’t actually care about their business, but I knew she was sticking up for me, so I played along and acted curious.

“Elijah was already only on track for around 400 points. He went completely off the rails right before the exam, and when scores came out he didn’t even hit 400. His mom’s furious, hasn’t

cracked a smile in days.”

My friend sounded totally satisfied with this outcome.

“And Janet messed up too. She only scored around 1200 points, there’s no way she’s getting

into Harvard.”

I was surprised. In my past life, even though I gave up my spot at Harvard, I still quietly checked the admission list-Janet’s name was the one on it in the end.

Before I could process all this new information, a text notification popped up on my phone.

I swiped it open-it was from Janet, asking me to meet her, and saying she knew my secret.

What secret could I possibly have?

I couldn’t figure out what Janet was playing at. After thinking it over, I decided to go anyway.

When I got to the café, Janet’s coffee was almost gone, so she’d clearly been waiting a long time.

As soon as I sat down, Janet eagerly pushed a stack of papers across the table at me. “Elena, let Elijah go. No matter how much you cling to him, he doesn’t love you. It’s never been you.”

I looked down. They were one ticket after another, all round-trip to Cambridge. Stacked up, there were dozens of them.

I almost laughed. Who was clinging to who here?

Why were both of these people acting like they’d lost their minds?

“I’m sure you can read the text on these tickets just fine. He’s the one pestering me, not the other way around. Go control your own boyfriend.”

I crossed my arms over my chest and shot her down without any softening.

A flash of anger crossed Janet’s eyes when I said that. She slammed her palm down on the table hard. “Elena, you’re mocking me, aren’t you? Elijah never even agreed to get back together with me!”

That actually caught me off guard.

I’d assumed Elijah was already wrapped around his true love’s finger long ago.

But what did any of this have to do with me?

“So what exactly did you ask me here to say?” I still didn’t get it.

Janet’s face suddenly twisted. Resentment and jealousy made her look scary, nothing like

the soft, gentle act she usually put on.

“Don’t get too excited. Elijah didn’t love you in the past life, and you won’t change that fact in

this one either!”

My face dropped instantly. I stared at her wide-eyed in disbelief, a bone-deep cold creeping all over my body.

Janet was reborn too!
