The Donna’s Lethal Goodbye Chapter 07

The Donna’s Lethal Goodbye Chapter 07

Cassius stood before the safe, his knuckles still stained with dried blood.

“Wait three days before you open it.”

Evelyn’s voice echoed in his mind.

Cassius’s breathing grew ragged. He raised his hand and punched a string of numbers into the keypad.

It was her birthday.

Cassius grabbed the box resting in the center.

Jaw clenched tight, he flipped open the lid.

On the velvet cushion lay an emblem-the token representing the identity of the Moretti family’s Donna.

Beneath the ring, pressed flat, were a few neatly folded pages.

He pulled the pages out and shook them open.

It was a Divorce Agreement.

Cassius felt like a sledgehammer had slammed into his chest.

His eyes scanned downward frantically. Every clause regarding asset division said Waived, and every right and claim was listed as a Voluntary Relinquishment.

At the bottom right corner of the last page was a signature, written without a trace of hesitation: Evelyn Valenti.

Not Evelyn Moretti. She had completely stripped away his surname and thrown it right back at him.

The papers slipped from Cassius’s hands.

“No…” He stared blankly at the ring.

Every single clue connected in this exact moment.

He remembered Evelyn asking him, her voice entirely calm: “But what if betrayal actually happens?”

How had he answered back then?

“I, Cassius Moretti, swear on the family name, I will never betray you.”

“Then let my punishment be that I will never be able to find you again.”

That wasn’t a hypothetical test. It was her verdict.

And then, she used his own toxic vow to execute this death sentence.

A raw, guttural roar tore from Cassius’s throat.

Panic and remorse clawed through his gut. The metallic taste of blood surged up his throat.

He doubled over, planting his hands heavily on the edge of the desk.

He coughed up a mouthful of blood, splattering it across the divorce agreement.

He stared at that striking red, his knees crashing heavily down onto the floor.

Seven hundred and thirty days since Evelyn left.

Inside the Moretti family’s underground interrogation room, a gunshot echoed through the enclosed space.

Cassius lowered his hand, the muzzle of the gun still smoking. At his feet, a smuggling ring boss lay in a pool of blood, a bullet hole dead-center in his forehead.

“Don, he only hid the location of the shipment. It really has nothing to do with the Donna’s disappearance…’ Giuseppe, his trusted right- hand man, said, his voice trembling.

“Even a one-in-a-million chance means he deserves to die.”

Cassius’s voice was hoarse.

He turned around. Over the past two years, his weight had plummeted by nearly twenty pounds. The suit hung loosely on his gaunt shoulders. His eye sockets were sunken, and his jawline was razor-sharp from constant teeth grinding. In those once-arrogant eyes, only pure paranoia remained.

He walked over to the table, grabbed a half-empty bottle of whiskey, and downed it. The alcohol burned against his ulcerated stomach lining, but he needed the pain.

“The bounty. Cassius wiped the liquor from the corner of his mouth. “Add another fifty million. Make it an even hundred million. I want every hacker and informant in the world looking for her.”

“But Don, the uncles are furious. Ever since Selena gave birth to the boy, they’ve been trying to prop her up…”

Cassius fired another shot backhanded. The bullet grazed Giuseppe’s ear and embedded itself into the wall.

“Don’t mention that name!” Cassius roared, his eyes bloodshot. “Lock her and that bastard child in the South Estate. If anyone lets her

out, I’ll skin them alive!”

Giuseppe swallowed hard and lowered his head. “Yes, Don.”

Cassius tossed the gun aside and collapsed onto the sofa.

He pulled out the bloodstained ring. For two years, it had been his only cure for insomnia. The edges of the ring had carved countless scars into his palm, yet he never once let go.

“Evelyn…” He pressed the ring against his lips. “Where the hell are you…”

The iron door was shoved open violently. The head of intelligence rushed in.

“Don! We found her!”

Cassius snapped his head up.

“A hacker on the dark web breached the firewall of an international classified medical institution, Marco said, handing over a tablet.

Displayed on the screen was a fragmented file.

The photo was heavily glitched. But it only took one glance for his heart to completely stop.

A white shirt, long hair, that chillingly calm gaze.

It was her.

“She’s using a new identity with zero immigration records. Her current position is Senior Toxicology Assistant, Marco reported quickly.

Cassius’s eyes were glued to the screen, his fingers trembling. He stood up so abruptly his vision went black, forcing him to grip the edge

of the table.

After leaving the Moretti family, Evelyn had completely discarded the identity of the Donna, picking up the career she had once sacrificed

for this marriage.

“Don, the security level at this lab is extreme. We can’t just send men in to grab her…”

The deadness in Cassius’s eyes was instantly replaced by an intense, predatory aggression.

He straightened his disheveled collar, his finger tracing Evelyn’s cheek through the glass of the screen.

Cassius lowered his voice. “Notify the finance department. Wash the cleanest half of the family’s assets.”

“Go to her lab, and prepare a charitable donation they simply cannot refuse.”
