I’m The Villainess Blocking The Shifter King Chapter 02

At the office, I sat in a daze, eating the sandwich I had just bought.

It was too bland to enjoy and too wasteful to throw away. It tasted so much worse than the breakfasts Mason made.

I thought back to the day I got off work and someone followed me into an alley to harass me. Mason had appeared out of nowhere with a blade in his hand and ordered the man to leave me alone.

The man saw that Mason was badly injured and thought he would be easy to push around, so he reached out to grab him by the collar.

Instead, Mason pointed his sword at him and said in a voice cold enough to freeze the air, “I’ll say it one more time. Get lost.”

The man took in Mason’s fierce expression and unwavering stare, then slunk away resentfully.

In the end, Mason’s strength gave out, and he collapsed to the ground.

He had saved my life, so I had no choice but to save his.

When I saw the tail tucked behind him, I knew he was a shifter, so I took him to a shifter medical center.

But after he woke up, his memory was impaired, and I was the only person he recognized. He handed me the only restorative elixir capsule he had on him.

“Although I don’t know what it’s for, I have a feeling it’s important. Keep it safe for me.”

That was how I brought him home.

Mason often cooked for me shirtless, wearing a pink floral apron tied around his waist.

I could never resist wrapping my arms around his lean waist and kissing the smooth skin of his back. His gentle, breathless murmur would drift into my ear. “Baby, I’m still cooking for you.”

I pretended not to hear him and lightly traced my tongue over his skin. A shiver of sensation shot through Mason like an electric current.

He turned around, impatiently cupped the back of my head, and kissed me deeply. The kiss grew hotter and more urgent with every second.

Then he scooped me up bridal-style, carried me into the bedroom, tossed me onto the bed, and untied the apron.

“Why are you spacing out, Jade Sullivan?”

My thoughts were yanked out of the memory as my manager snapped her fingers in front of my face.

She stood over me with her arms crossed. “Come to my office.”

After I was dismissed from her office, I slowly came back to myself.

What I had said that morning had come true. The company was downsizing, and I had been laid off. I really could not afford to support Mason anymore.

I pushed open my front door, utterly dejected. The familiar smell of dinner no longer filled the apartment, and there was no home-cooked meal waiting on the table. The table was completely bare.

My heart suddenly felt hollow.

The space Mason had once filled was now barren.

I picked up an apple from the coffee table and was just about to take a bite.

Then Mason’s low, gentle voice sounded behind me. “Why are you only eating an apple?”

I turned around in disbelief. The moment my eyes met Mason’s, the joy of regaining what I thought I had lost blurred my vision with tears.

He was wearing a crisp, tailored suit jacket, and he set the groceries in his hand aside.

He walked toward me and gently wiped away my tears with his thumb. “Baby, why are you crying?”

Mason smiled softly. “I went out for an interview today. I didn’t get the chance to tell you. I just bought groceries, and I’ll make dinner for you now.”

I froze, and my tears stopped.

I asked in confusion, “You went to an interview today?”

As he handed me the flowers and slipped out of his dress shoes, he said, “Yes. From now on, I’ll take care of you. You don’t have to do anything. Just love me, and I’ll handle the rest.”

The floating comments started flashing wildly before my eyes again.

[What has this side character trained the male lead to be? Once our precious female lead shows up, he’s going to regret this.]

[Isn’t it obvious? This side character has tricks. She’s playing hard to get. When is the male lead going to get his memories back? I can’t wait to see her punished.]

[Soon, soon. The female lead shows up in the next chapter.]

My mood hit rock bottom in an instant.
