She Woke Up After Eight Years To Find Her Husband Had A New Wife Chapter 06

The words hit me like a physical blow. I stood there, frozen- rooted to the floor. 

Back then, to avoid affecting his career, we had chosen to keep our marriage secret. 

We handled the paperwork through connections back home, and it was never properly recorded. Legally, I was never his wife. 

His tone softened as he stepped closer. 

“I know I’ve done you wrong. I know that.” 

“But this is how things are now. Can’t you just… let it go? Let me have this?” 

I stared at that face–the one I used to love. The one I used to 

trace with my fingertips in the dark. 

Now I barely recognized it. 

“How could I?” 

He lowered his voice. “Vanessa doesn’t know. Any of it.” 

“She thinks you are just an ordinary patient. She thinks I’m 

only your attending physician.” 

“And Caleb–she’s the only mother he’s ever known.” 

“He’s eight years old, Isolde. Eight. Are you really going to be the one to destroy that?” 

My hands were shaking. I couldn’t make them stop. 

“I’ll make it up to you,” he went on. 

“Money. A place to live. Whatever you need.” 

“You can start over–you had your career, your racing.” 

“You never needed me. Not really. You’ll be fine.” 

“But Vanessa and Caleb, they need me. They wouldn’t make it without me.” 

Hearing this, I suddenly laughed. And then, just like that, the 

tears came. 

I met his eyes. “Do you even remember why I got into that chamber, Lucian?” 

He said nothing. 

My vision blurred. “Because you held me in your arms and swore you’d wait.” 

“Because you begged me. You said you couldn’t live without me. You said our child needed his mother.” 

“Do you remember any of that?” 

Something flickered in his eyes–there and gone. Then that calm again. 

“I haven’t forgotten. But Isolde, people change.” 

People change. The words landed like an open palm. 

I looked at the man before me and suddenly felt that our three years of marriage had been nothing but a complete illusion. 

My voice was shaking now, but I didn’t care. 

“You didn’t change, Lucian.” 

“You were never allergic to cats. You could always cook.” 

“You knew exactly how to be romantic. You just never bothered–not for me.” 

The color kept draining from his face. 

“You never loved me.” I said each word slowly and clearly. 

His voice cracked, shooting up. “Enough! I don’t want to hurt you, Isolde—but don’t push me!” 

I let out a cold laugh. “What am I pushing you to do? To admit that you are a liar?” 

Something dark flickered in his eyes–I saw it. 

He opened his mouth to speak. That’s when the knock came. 

“Daddy!” Caleb’s voice came through the door. “Mommy says come eat!” 

Lucian took a deep breath and steadied himself. He walked over and opened the door. 

Caleb stood outside. He tilted his head as he looked at me, his gaze cold and openly hostile. 

“Caleb.” Lucian crouched down and patted his head. 

“I’m still talking with Auntie, okay? Go on back to Mommy. I’ll be there in a minute.” 

But Caleb didn’t move. He just stood there, staring me down. 

“You’re the one who’s trying to steal my daddy.” 

And before anyone could stop him, he lunged–small fists swinging, pounding against my leg. 

“Go away! My mommy’s his wife–not you!” 

I looked down at him. 

The small red mole at the corner of his eye was exactly the same as the one I had seen in that final moment when I gave 

birth to him. 

I had endured the agony of cancer to bring him into this world. 

I only had time to look at him once before I was pushed into the cryo chamber. 

For eight years, I had imagined countless times what it would be like to reunite with him. 

Never once had I imagined it would be like this. 

Lucian rushed over and picked him up. “Caleb! We do not hit people!” 

Caleb struggled in his arms. 

“She is bad! She’s trying to take you away! I have to protect Mommy!” 

The tears were there–burning, blurring everything. I held them back. Barely.
