99 Times He Broke Our Bond—The 100th Time, I Left Chapter 04

I hung up and looked down at Kelly. “Come on, sweetheart. Mommy’s taking us home.”

Kelly nodded quietly.

I took my daughter’s hand and got into the car I’d booked. We left Blood Moon territory without any trouble, crossed the Silver Mist Woods, and arrived at Windhowl Pack, my birth pack, in Moonstream Valley.

The moment I stepped out of the car, a gentle warmth filled my chest. My weakened wolf felt stronger almost instantly.

“Rebecca! Kelly!”

I turned at the familiar voice. My mother stood there with tears in her eyes. My father, always so stern, had a look of quiet pain on his face too.

I fell into my mother’s arms. My father scooped up Kelly. And the tears I’d been holding back since I left Blood Moon finally came pouring out. “Mom… Dad…”

My mother held me tight. “My poor girl, you’ve endured far too much heartache.”

My father held Kelly close, his jaw tight. “That foolish Alpha shall answer for failing to treasure the one who stood by him.”

At the pack hospital, the sharp smell of disinfectant hung in the air.

Arthur stared at his phone after hanging up, his face dark. The dead tone rang in his ears.

He looked back at James, whining in the hospital bed, and at Grace sitting beside him, gently feeding him water. The empty void left by her severing our bond ached with biting, hollow cold.

“Dad, did that woman snap at you just now?” James pouted. “I knew she was rotten from the start! You finally see it now, right? Kick her out and let my mom come back.”

Grace quickly handed James some water and said softly, “James, don’t talk like that. I’m certain Rebecca simply had an unexpected emergency come up. After all, your father already went to get her.”

Her words — so reasonable, so understanding — only made Arthur more irritated.

He tugged at his collar and tried to reach out through the mate bond. But all he found was silence.

Before, the moment he reached out, her heartbeat would answer right away, warm and soft like a trusting pup.

Now there was nothing.

“Dad, my leg hurts. I want to go home. This place stinks,” James whined. “Go fetch that woman and make her wait on me hand and foot.”

Get her back?

Arthur thought of the cold, empty look in Rebecca’s eyes earlier. He had never seen her like that.

He stood up abruptly, ignoring James’s shouts, and strode out.

“Arthur, where are you going?” Grace called after him.

“Back to the house,” he said, his voice rough.

When he drove back to the empty house, all he found was silence.

No hot dinner waiting in the dining room. No sound of Kelly’s laugh. No quiet figure tidying up.

He ran upstairs to their bedroom. Half the closet was empty. On the dusty vanity table lay the moonstone bracelet he’d given her last year — the only thing she’d left behind.

In that moment, his Alpha aura shattered out of control. Every window in the house rattled.

He finally understood. The woman who always crawled back to him, no matter how many times he threw her out — this time, she was really gone.
