“Young love really is wonderful,” Audrey’s mother said warmly. “Now that Audrey has you, we

can finally stop worrying.”

The words snapped Julian out of his memories.

At this point, there was no hiding it anymore.

He pulled out his phone and showed Audrey the screenshot of the license plate.

“The Vance family crest is on this plate,” he said flatly. “Where did you take her?”

Audrey blinked in confusion.

Then slowly looked up at him.

“Julian… why do you have my sister’s plate number?”

Julian froze.

And suddenly, the eyes in the hospital finally made sense.

They looked like Audrey’s.

When I woke up again, my mom was sitting beside me.

The second I saw the worry on her face, tears spilled uncontrollably down my cheeks.

“You’re awake!” Mom nearly cried from relief before turning toward the door. “Dr. Vance!

Vivienne’s awake!”

A moment later, the door opened.

A masked woman walked inside.

Mom helped prop a pillow behind me while I looked at her quietly.

“Thank you for saving me.”

Then, after hesitating briefly, I asked carefully:

“Are you… related to Audrey Vance?”

The woman must’ve noticed the guarded look in my eyes because she handed the medicine

tray to my mother and laughed lightly.

“Mrs. Sterling, your daughter is pretty defensive.”

I didn’t know how to respond to that.

Still, instinctively, I felt like she wasn’t a bad person.

Mom gently patted my hand in warning. I knew exactly what she meant.

She didn’t want me treating someone who helped us like this.

But the name Vance alone was enough to put me on edge.

Seeing the tension in the room, the woman finally held out her hand toward me.

“Melanie Vance. I’m three years older than you, so you can call me Melanie.”

When I didn’t move, she awkwardly lowered her hand.

“What my sister did has nothing to do with me. We’re only half-sisters anyway. You don’t

need to take it out on me.”

After saying that, she gently pulled my mother outside, giving me space to think.

The moment I unlocked my phone, the screen exploded with notifications.

I had barely started scrolling when the door opened again.

Melanie walked in carrying takeout containers.

“You should eat something,” she said. “You’ve been unconscious for two days.”

I accepted the food quietly.

“Thank you.”

Instead of stepping away, she reached over and ruffled my hair like I was some wounded

stray animal.

“It’s over now,” she said softly. “They won’t find you here.”

After Melanie left, another call suddenly flashed across my screen.

Julian.

I ignored it.

But the calls kept coming one after another until the nonstop ringing became unbearable.

Mom walked over, took the phone from my hand, and answered it herself.

“Vivienne!” Julian’s frantic voice exploded through the speaker. “You finally picked up! Don’t

listen to Melanie. That illegitimate daughter is manipulative as hell!”

Hearing the panic in his voice made me laugh bitterly.

He said Melanie couldn’t be trusted.

But apparently he’d forgotten the one person I should’ve never trusted was him.

“Vivienne?” His breathing sounded uneven now. “Tell me where you are, okay? I’ll come get

you…”

“Oh, absolutely not,” Mom snapped before he could finish. “Julian, the only manipulative trash here is you and that mistress of yours! And let me make one thing very clear. The moment you humiliated my daughter, you lost any right to come near her again!”

Silence filled the line for several long seconds.

Then his voice cracked.

“Mrs. Sterling… no… Mom, please. Let me talk to Vivienne.”

Mom ignored him and looked toward me instead.

I gave a small nod.

She handed me the phone.

My voice came out colder than I expected.

“Julian, we’re over.”

I rested a hand over my stomach.

“And this baby isn’t going to end up the way you people want. Take care of yourself.”

Then I hung up.
