I Was Dumped by Four Mate Candidates Chapter 05

I stormed home. But by the time I lay down, the rage had bled out. Only exhaustion was left.

Then Lucian reached me through our mind-link.

I closed my eyes. Let myself feel it.

Lucian came from the Thunderbird Pack. Their wolves were known for their unique silver giant-wolf forms. Every Alpha’s pheromones hit like a thunderstorm. But Lucian himself, he was a gentleman in the day-to-day.

I’d met him during my adventures abroad. We’d fought side by side. After the victory, I’d suddenly shifted and said that word I never expected.

Mate.

Platinum-blond hair. A high-bridged nose. A profile that could’ve been carved into an ancient Greek painting. The most unforgettable part—his eyes were a deep violet.

I could see him inside the mind-link. Probably because we were fated.

He was wearing a grey shirt today. Collar loose.

The moment he connected, he spoke in common tongue. “Good evening, Sloane.”

That restless knot in my chest practically dissolved.

“Good evening, my love.”

“Are you tired today?”

“I’m okay.” I sank into my pillows. “Your meetings finished?”

“Just ended.” He paused. “I had someone review the menu you sent. Mother says she likes it.”

I nodded. “Then I’ll keep the flowers simple.”

Lucian studied me. “You’re not happy today.”

I went quiet for two seconds. He always did that. Pointed straight at the heart of things.

“Someone upset you?” he asked.

I fiddled with the edge of a cushion. Said it softly. “Some friends I grew up with. All of a sudden they think I’m the type to bully people.”

Lucian didn’t respond right away.

Then he spoke slowly in common tongue. “Did they ever really know you? Before?”

I blinked.

He kept going. “If they ever really knew you, five years wouldn’t change that.”

His common tongue was still a little stiff. But I understood.

My nose prickled.

Lucian’s voice dropped low. “Sloane. Do you want me to come early?”

“I thought we said next month.”

“I can change my plans.”

I looked at his face in the link. That excessively cold face that somehow always turned gentle for me. I couldn’t help laughing.

“Lucian. You’re making me think you can’t live without me. You’re the Alpha of the Thunderbird Pack.”

He paused. Then he answered very seriously. “It’s the truth. I can’t live without you.”

I burst out laughing. The heaviness vanished.

Lucian said, “One more thing.”

“Yeah?”

“I got you a gift.” There was a rare note of almost-tender smugness in his eyes. “I’ll give it to you when I see you.”

I raised an eyebrow. “Cryptic.”

“Also.” His voice went lower. “Goodnight, my fiancée.”

The link ended. I stared at the ceiling. Felt this strange, unexpected anticipation.

I had a feeling. He really was going to come early.
