He Set Me Up at the Wedding, I Took Him Down Chapter 16

Chapter4

I became the joke of the entire city

They said my bride had run away from the biggest wedding of

the year

Left two men fighting over herboth terrible

They said I deserved it for hurting her

I didn’t care. I just needed to see her again

I searched the entire capital. She was gone

I finally understood how she’d felt when I disappeared- hopeless, broken

She’d erased herself completely

No one knew where she was

When I hired people to find her, they said. Mr. Reed, please don’t make us do this.”

Of course. She’d planned her escape from the second she heard my words

She’d never let me find her

It was all my fault

Real departure isn’t a screaming fight. It’s silence

Chloe Carter was truly letting me go

By the time I realized it, a bitter ache was gnawing at me from

the inside out, threatening to consume me entirely

I went back to our wedding house

Every trace of her was gone

She did it on purpose

Deliberately leaving me nothing to hold onto

Cutting herself out of my life abruptly, cruelly, completely

She was so ruthless

I tore through every room

Finally, in the study, I found what she’d left behind

All the gifts I’d given hersmashed to pieces

That was how she chose to draw the line. To tell me she was disgusted by everything I’d ever given her

And there was the wedding dress we’d had custommade in Italy

A long, deep slash ran down it, from the waist all the way to the hem

I remembered half a year ago, when we’d ordered it. She’d been overjoyed, practically bouncing with excitement, saying she’d waited forever for that designer

Said she wanted to be my most beautiful bride on our wedding day

Back then, her eyes had shone like stars

But I’d been too caught up in my stupid pride

In my petty resentment and need to get even

I hurt the person I loved. I trampled on her heart

Deep down, I’d always known Chloe’s feelings for me were real. Fierce. Sincere. She’d wanted a future with me

We’d held each other through countless nights, whispering the sweetest promises, swearing we’d be together forever

But I lost her

My ridiculous ego, twisted with jealousy just because she’d once cared for someone else, had driven me mad

I’d forgotten all the beautiful memories we shared

Her wedding planning diaries were proof of how much she’d

loved me. Now they felt like knives stabbing into my chest

Tears streamed down my face as I flipped through them

I clutched the damaged wedding dress tightly to my chest. In

the empty house, only my tears fell soundlessly

I wanted to spend the rest of my life making it up to her. But she would never see me again.
