My Husband Thinks I’m My Own Mistress Chapter 17

Kael rushed home the second he got the news.

The family doctor had patched me up, thick gauze wrapped tight around my waist.

Kael’s face was a storm of worry, relief, and white-hot anger. He stepped close and brushed

my red, stinging cheek.

He wanted to yell. He just didn’t know how.

After a long beat, he sighed. “Did you have to do this?”

I tilted my head up and held my hands out to him, soft and clingy.

“Honey, hold me.”

He pulled me into his arms at once and kissed my ear tenderly.

“Don’t do this again. Just pay her off, or give her something else. Don’t risk your body like

that.”

I didn’t answer him.

I nuzzled his chest instead.

“Honey, did you know Dad has a secret son?”

“I know. What are you planning?”

“Find him for me.”

I smiled faintly.

“I’m gonna use that secret son to make a deal with Dad.”

Dad’s secret boy was six years old.

His birth certificate was listed under the other woman’s name.

I paid her ten million dollars to leave the country and cut every tie with everyone here.

She hesitated for a minute, then said yes.

Guess Dad had been cheap with her. Or maybe she thought she’d take the money and come

back for the inheritance later.

I was having afternoon tea in the garden when Dad found me.

I hadn’t seen or spoken to him in months.

He was heavy-bellied, his temples streaked with gray, sitting across from me with a twisted,

guilty look in his eyes.

“Lila.”

I laughed softly. “I never got it. Mom was obsessed with Elara, fine. But why did you go along

with it, Dad?”

“Now I see it. Once you had that boy, you stopped caring about everyone. All you cared about

was your little secret family.”

“Lila…”

“Is gender really that important? You held me once, Dad. You loved me once.”

He let out a heavy sigh.

“It’s my fault. I’ll do better from now on-

“Don’t bother.”

I cut him off.

“Dad, retire.”

His face turned hard at once. “No. You can’t just-”

You poured everything you had into that project. Elara hates you. She’ll never fund you. And

Kael won’t help unless I say so.”

I set my teacup down calmly.

“Step down now, and you can live comfortably for the rest of your life. Forget about that son

of yours. He’ll survive.”

“But if you keep being ungrateful-”

I smiled faintly.

“I’ve got plenty of ways to make you bend, Dad.”
