My Husband Thinks I’m My Own Mistress Chapter 03

My Husband Thinks I’m My Own Mistress Chapter 03

An hour later, my alarm blared.

I put on makeup in a foul mood, pulled my hair up, packed takeout into a box, and brought it to Kael.

He was in a video meeting, listening sharply to his team in Europe.

When he saw me, he waved me over and patted his lap.

“Why so late?”

He buried his face in my neck, half-whining, half-complaining.

“I thought you weren’t coming today.”

The formal report from the computer still played out loud. Even with mics and cameras off, I felt my face burn.

I pushed him gently. “You’re still in a meeting. Don’t.”

“So what? We’re married. I don’t care who sees.”

“Don’t you think this is inappropriate?”

He froze, then scowled. “Did your sister complain to you again?”

“She’s just a girl. You yelled at her in front of everyone… Don’t be so hard on her next time, okay?”

Kael went quiet.

After a moment, he kissed my cheek.

“Baby, I know you’re kind. But don’t you see she’s copying everything you do?”

“Huh?”

Kael unmuted his mic and rescheduled the meeting for later, then turned back to me.

“Even twins aren’t identical in habits and tastes.”

“But you love pearls, so she wears pearl studs every day. You’re bubbly, so she bounces around the office. You lift your tone at the end of sentences, so she does too. She’s got an agenda.”

“You mean…”

“She’s copying you to seduce me.”

Kael said it with complete certainty.

“I see women like her all the time—using your trust to steal your man.”

“You’re too kind. She’s picked on you since you were kids, and your parents favor her. Baby, you have to be careful.”

He stroked my waist as he spoke.

His voice was serious, like he was teaching his naive, innocent wife a lesson.

I felt like I’d been struck by lightning.

“Are you sure you’re not mistaken?”

I forced a smile. “Lila isn’t like that.”

“I knew you’d say that.”

Kael sighed in disappointment.

“Baby, I’m the one who’s closest to you. Why won’t you believe me instead of her?”

Me: “…Haha.”

I had nothing to say.

Luckily, Kael dropped it. He kissed me softly and held me while we ate.

When I left, he pulled me in for a goodbye kiss.

I walked out of Voss Group Tower, exhausted, wiping the sticky feeling from my lips—when Kael called.

He screamed at me the second I picked up.

“Are you a child? Running to your sister every time you get yelled at? And last month’s reports? Full of mistakes. If you can’t do the job, get out! Useless.”

My face twisted with rage.

Another call came in instantly. I snapped, picking up in anger:

“I said I’m coming right now! Can you stop—”

“Lila.”

A soft, familiar voice sounded.

“It’s me. I’m home.”
