Kyler’s fingers froze over the screen. Then his hands started shaking. Hard.

Elowen never did this. Whenever they fought, she’d cry, throw a fit, but she always came

back. This wasn’t like her. Panic hit him like a wave.

He called the police. They promised to look for her. He didn’t trust them. He got in his

car and drove everywhere, from the Harlan corporate building all the way to the Jiang family

home.

He opened the door. What he saw hollowed him out completely. He dragged his legs

forward, each step weighted with concrete. The furniture was untouched.

But the family photo behind the TV, it had been ripped apart. Brynn was cut out.

Separated. Deliberately.

Elowen. Her father. Her mother. Together. And Kyler’s face, it looked like someone had

taken a knife to it, carving with pure, unfiltered hatred. His image had been blacked out with a

marker. Scratched away until nothing was left. His body had been torn to shreds.

Kyler’s heart seized in his chest. His throat clenched. He couldn’t believe she hated him

this much.

So much that she’d destroy every trace of him. Confusion. Hurt. And a bitter, moonless

rage swelled until he thought his chest would explode. His eyes went red. His lips twisted.

“Elowen! You hate me this much?! You didn’t even do this to Brynn! Why me?! What did I

do to deserve this?!” His howl echoed through the empty villa. No one answered.

After a long time, he pulled himself up and walked toward her bedroom, a cold sneer on his face, ready to see what other destruction she’d left behind. But what he expected wasn’t

there.

He’d been sure he’d find every love letters he’d written her-torn up, smashed, destroyed. The photos. The handmade gifts. But no. Everything was there. Untouched. Perfectly preserved. Each item sealed inside its own glass display case.

Kyler froze. The venom died in his throat. Eyes red, fingers trembling, he flipped through the letters. Every single one had a reply written at the bottom. In her handwriting.

[Ky, I like you too. I’ve liked you since the first time you told me I could lean on you the

way I leaned on my dad.]

[Ky, you’re impossible. I told you, you can’t just kiss a girl’s face whenever you want. And you turned off the power in the whole classroom during evening study hall just to kiss me? That was my first kiss, you jerk!]

[Kyler, I’m actually mad this time. Can you please stop fighting with Brynn? But… you did apologize pretty well. Fine. You’re forgiven.]

She’d kept every single one. Dozens of them. Maybe more. By the time he finished reading, his heart had been carved out and left in pieces. The pain sank straight into his

bones.

Then he reached the last one. The reply was different.

[Kyler! I hate you! How dare you sleep with Brynn! How dare you betray me! I loved you so much! You said you were going to marry me! Kyler! How can you be so cruel?!]

[You promised we’d go abroad together, why did you steal my spot and give it to her?! Is

she really that good at seducing you?! Is it that easy for her to make you forget everything?!]
