The Eve of Our Forever, He Chose Her Chapter 09

The Eve of Our Forever, He Chose Her Chapter 09 The Life Waiting Beyond Him

Ethan was incredibly lucky.

The terrace he fell from wasn’t very high, and the rescue air cushion broke most of the impact. In the end, he only suffered a fractured leg.

When he woke up, daylight was already flooding the hospital room.

The moment he saw me sitting beside the bed, his eyes lit up.

“Daphne… I knew it,” he said hoarsely. “I knew you wouldn’t leave me.”

I sighed quietly.

There was nothing in my eyes anymore-only a calm exhaustion.

“Why did you have to make things so extreme?”

Ethan froze.

I frowned slightly and continued.

“Jumping off a building to threaten me… Ethan, when will you stop using this kind of extreme behavior to force people to give in?”

He opened his mouth as if to argue, but I cut him off.

“Ethan, we were never right for each other.

“You didn’t actually love me.

‘What you’re feeling now is just resentment over losing something you thought you owned. That’s obsession-not love.

‘You’ve never truly stood on my side or tried to understand how I felt.

‘You enjoy being needed. You enjoy having people revolve around you. But you rarely consider the feelings of the people closest to you.”

His eyes turned red almost immediately.

He tried to grab my hand, but I gently pulled away.

“Daphne… that’s not what I meant. I—”

“Let me finish.”

I looked at him quietly.

“I hope you can let me go. And let go of those so-called friendships you were always so proud of.

“You need to grow up.

“You need to learn responsibility.

“And someday, when someone truly cares about you again, learn how to cherish her.

“Don’t let her go through what I did.”

He finally broke down.

Tears streamed down his face as he sobbed helplessly, unable to say another word.

Seeing him cry like that, I couldn’t help softening for a moment.

I stepped forward and gave him one final hug.

“Ethan,” I said softly.

“No matter what happens, I truly hope you find happiness someday.”

Then I let go.

I turned around and walked away.

And just like that, I disappeared from his life for good.

The next time I heard about Ethan was three months later.

I was sitting on a bench on campus overseas, listening to a friend back home talking on the phone.

“Maya’s family company is finished,” she said with a sigh.

“Her father is under investigation for commercial fraud, and she’s being sued by victims over defective outdoor equipment. It’s unlikely she’ll recover from this.”

She paused for a moment before continuing.

‘And Ethan…

‘Someone exposed everything online-how he always sided with Maya, how he treated you. There were even recordings.

‘Now the entire internet is calling him a scumbag. His accounts are banned and all his business deals have collapsed.”

listened quietly.

Strangely, I felt almost nothing.

After the call ended, I stared up at the clear blue sky.

There was no sense of revenge.

No sadness either.

Just a quiet realization.

One of them had paid the price for blind jealousy and manipulation.

The other had finally fallen into the consequences of his own choices.

A breeze brushed through my hair.

I lowered my head, smiled faintly, slipped my phone back into my pocket, and walked toward the classroom.

Sunlight poured down, warm across my shoulders.

The tangled love and heartbreak I once cried over now felt like nothing more than a noisy dream from youth.

And now that the dream had ended-

the road ahead was wide open.

Life was just beginning.
